Scared

Dear Doctor,

On August 17th 2010 I had unprotected oral sex with an escort and protected vaginal sex. I did not ejaculate in her.  The condom looked intact although its hard to tell since I did ejaculate in her  A few days later I felt a bit of pain around my urethra and had a burning sensation peeing. I went to my doctor on August 26 and he made me do a Gohareah ,Chlymedia Syphalis  , Hepititus B test and HIV test.  The tests. The HIV test was done on August 26th and was concluded on August 30th with no antibodies detected.  The other tests came back Negative. My urine test however still came back with abnormal bacterial cultures.  I have had a sore throat for about three weeks should I be concerned about HIV and can you get a urinal tract infection from unprotected oral sex.

Scared out of my mind.

1.  NGU is just that, non-specific.  If can be due to systemic, non-STD viral infections, urinary tract and prostate infections, or other kinds of irritation of the genital tract.  Further, it is not incommon for men to wake up with what appears to be a discharge from time to time as the result of night time arrousal.  Given your prior negative tests and the interval since expsoure, I would not worry that this is an STD.

2.  No, including herpes. EWH

Hi Doctor

I have a question I woke up this morning with my penis burning again and there is a clear discharge. I have no lesions or blisters on my penis but I feel like i have another NGU . I have not had sex since our last discussion.  Two questions

1) Can I get an NGU from not having a sexual encounter and if so what could be from
2) Since its been three months since my encounter should I be concerned that any STD's could develop in that time. Is genital herpes like HIV where it could develop in three months.

Thanks.

There was no need to post on both Forum. The answers are similar or could have been answered with just one posting.  Please read my reply to you on the HIV Prevention Forum.  There is no reason for you to be concerned about HIV.

It is difficult to tell what is going on with your urine test.  Following unprotected oral sex men can get non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) which can mimic a urinary tract infection. I suggest you ask your doctor about this possiblity.

If there are follow-up questions, please post them here only , not on the HIV site.  I have said all there is to say about HIV and your lack of risk for HIV.  EWH
