One mistake=months of worry

Hello,

I received unprotected oral sex from a massage girl in the far east (China) Nov 2007.
I am a married man with a wife who is 4 months pregnant.
I got tested in August 2008 (negative for gonerreha and clymidia), no symptoms ever.
I had surgery in Feb 2008 and a routine uralalysis was done pre op (I was never told anything was wrong)
In Febuary 2008 I had an respitory infection and received a antibiotic that has been mentioned on this site called Biaxin XL 2X 500mg pills once a day for 10 days.
I called my local health hotline here in Toronto, canada and they told me that there is no need to worry as no symptoms developed and that oral sex regardless of the hype is low risk for all STD's (I have read this on your site also)
The incident happened in Nov 07 and I never had unprotected sex with my wife until August 2008 as I figured I was fine.
Now to my question...

1) Is receiving oral sex really low risk for bacterial STD's?

2) Would this medication cure any bacterial STD that I could have got from oral sex?

3) I was very concerned cause when my wife got pregnant she had blood work (no Pap) and her WBC was 10.8 (just below the high range) and her absolute neutros was around 8.3 and I think the range went up to 7.5 so it was high.  I freaked when I learned this but then I found many reputable sites that explain once a women gets pregnant these values rise and it is normal as the pregnancy does this to the body....is this true?  her doctor never said anything about it we just happened to see the results.

4) My wife also had one period a while back that stopped and started again a couple days later and lasted a day or so.  She mentioned this to me cause she thought it was a little wierd but never thought anything about it...is this typical with an STD?

5) My local health clinic think I may need phycological help as I can not let this go....it is tearing me up I really need some other advise, thank you.

6) would a routine urinalysis pick up anything?

No, I do not mean that.

You came here for reassurance.  I gave it.  Accept it and stop trying to talk me, and yourself, into believing there is an STD issue here.  There is not the remotest chance of it.  If you cannot accept such overwhelming evidence, it suggests an emotional problem that likely would benefit from professional attention.

This thread is over.

Do you mean that it is persistent and high in people with an STD?...

I haven't changed my mind. The additional information doesn't change my opinion or advice.

Everybody's WBC count goes over 10,000 from time to time.  It's normal.  It may happen a little more frequently during pregnancy, I'm not sure.  But a WBC in that range doesn't mean anything, unless it is persistent and sometimes higher.

Thank you so much for your answers....so gonerreha does go away by itself?..I remeber I was told this a long time ago but never even thought of it.  Also is the absolute neutros being a little elevated?...I get confused when it comes to CBC results.  I saw the results and it had an "A" beside the absolute neutro meaning abnormal but the doctor or midwife never even mentioned it?..can you give me a little explaination on why it is high during pregnancy? as I have read.

Welcome to the STD forum.  I'll try to help.

Yes, oral sex is safe sex with respect to STDs -- very low risk for some and zero for others.  Chlamydia is not a possibility, since oral chlamydia is rare -- thus no transmission by oral sex.  Gonorrhea would have caused obvious symptoms -- and in any case it goes away within 3 months, without treatment.  Finally, clarithromycin (Biaxin) would have cured either of these. To the specific questions:

1) Yes.  You didn't catch anything.

2) Yes; see above.

3) A slightly high white blood count does not suggest any STD.  And 10.8 really is normal anyway.

4) There are innumerable causes for irregular periods other than STD.

5) I agree.

6) Not necessarily, but for all the reasons above, it doesn't matter.

You should listen and pay attention to the advice of your local clinic.  Your obsession with STD as a result of your oral sex indiscretion is evidence of an emotional disorder.  You can forget STDs, however.

Regards--  HHH, MD
