I am sorry to hear about your problems getting your GF treated. Should this happen again in the future, you might get better service at your local STD clinic. Either way however, you have nothing to worry about. You and your GF are both in the clear. IN answer you your questions:
1. Azithromycin is still patented so you almost certainly y got the real thing. I presume you did not get counterfeit meds.
2. You are safe from re-infection. We recommend abstinence for 7 days post treatment so you did exactly as we would recommend.
3. She does not need testing.
You did the right things and have nothing further to worry about. Well done. EWH
Thank you for your timely response. My only other concern is an unlikely but possible case of asymptomatic Tric in my girlfriend. Want to be 100 percent certain she doesn't have it. It's been 7 months since I possibly could have infected her. Neither one of us have symptoms.
1. Should we wait another 4-5 months for her health insurance to kick in and get her tested?
2. Should we self medicate with flagly or other antibiotics? We would make sure to take the proper dose.
3. Self medicating would be asking for side effects but wouldn't it also eliminate possible asymptomatic trich?
4. We would wait to get tested down the road, but I don't know how confident to be in a wet mount or culture. How efficient is a wet mount and or culture?
5. What would be the most efficient, using 1 or 2 testing methods? If just 1, which one?
6. If culture and or wet mount isn't totally reliable, wouldn't an antibiotic be the best bet?
We don't mind waiting 4-5 months for my gf to get tested for asymptomatic trich, I just want to be confident that I'm taking the best possible route.
Thank you so much for your time.
Her chances of asymptomatic trich, from what you've told me is very low. She should just go to a public STD clinic and get tested. A wet moutn will be fine. EWH
Sorry for bothering you, but how can I rest assure that my gf doesn't have trich if wet mounts and cultures are far from ideal. Ive read some of your other posts, and your faith in these testing methods isn't too comforting. If we self medicated with flagly, there wouldn't be any long term side effects would there?
When combined with her lack of symptoms, her lack of symptoms and your lack of symptoms, a negative wet mount would make her chances of having trich effectively zero. There is no such thing as 100% in science but with a negative wet mount you would be about as close as one could get. Further testing beyond that would add little.
I do not recommend self treatment for problems that are not likely to be there. It is bad medicine and places you at risk for side effects. If you choose to self-medicate, so be it but do not ask me to support it. EWH
