Sore lymph nodes

Thank you for taking my question.  I am a straight male, and had unprotected sex with a stranger 1 1/2 months ago.  Up until last Friday I felt ok, but since Friday I've had abdominal pain, diarhea, and my groin lymph nodes feel sore.  There are one bean sized node on each side, which I've felt before, but now there is a hard, pea-sized one just above the one on the left side.  I have no appetite, and hardly ate all weekend.  Everything I eat comes right back out as diarhea.  STD clinic came back negative for gon, clamydia, and hiv.  I also had igg test for herpes that came back neg for both herpes types last week. Shold I retest for herpes, could it have manifested itself since last week and now I'm having antibodies?  Could it be something else.  Also my right shoulder is really sore today and I haven't stressed it.  Thanks for helping!

Hi. I had unprotected sex a week ago and about 2 days afterward, my groin lymph nodes became swollen. I have no other symptoms (discharge, odor, etc). Does anyone know if this could be unrelated? I have no insurance so if I can avoid going to the doc, I'd like to. Thanks

As you know, I can't make a diagnosis on line and won't try.  I can't say what specific HIV tests most free clinics use, but it doesn't matter:  even with the older tests, a negative result 6 weeks after exposure is just about 100% accurate.  So you don't have HIV.

As to your skin rash, you have to see a health care provider.  It isn't HIV and it isn't any STD.  Hives and other skin rashes usually aren't dangerous, but sometimes can be a sign of something more serious.  Even if mild, nobody can diagnose you without seeing you in person for an exam.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Dr, I too have been experiencing. I had protected vaginal but unprotected oral....I went to a free clinic since i dont have any kind of insurance at six weeks after possible exposure and took a HIV,syphillis, gon, & chlamydia all came back negative....Now my questions is, do free clinics use the more recent test ( in the US) or do you think i should get retested? I have been freaking out it has now been three months symptoms happened at around two months of exposure but then went away, now the only thing i do get are these hive like bumps mainly in the torso and face, usually only one hive like bump that is very small....could this be std related. What worries me is HIV...please respomd I have been trying to post this question for weeks now and I have not been able to get through....But if you r not able to i will keep trying to post.thank you kindly...

Sorry, one follow-up question.  Would sore testicles mean anything?  It's mainly just the left one.

Your symptoms don't sound like STD, and the time from exposure to onset is too long anyway.  Whatever is causeing your symptoms almost certainly are entirely unrelated to the sexual encounter you describe.  In any case you have already been tested for the common STDs.  See your primary care provider if your symptoms persist, but don't worry about herpes, HIV, or other STDs.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
