Still Worried about Fiance

Hi Doctor,

I wrote to you last week about my fiance who had the vaginal discharge and a couple of "pimples near the vaginal area" the day after we had sex.  I have been suffering from great anxiety that  I transmitted any incurable STD to her.  HIV is not a worry because we were both tested for HIV 3 months after  sexual intercourse, and it came back negative.

I have never had any type of sores on my penis. Prior to being with my current fiance, I have always used a condom during sex. I did however did have some acne(not blisters) on my pubic hair area, but not on penis or scrotum 2 years ago, but I have never had it since.  I remember once have acne on my buttocks(not blisters)  once I have been diagnosed with follicilitus on my abdomen and maybe on my legs, so sopmetimes I get sores from that condition.

My fiance's problem occured about 10 days ago.  Five days after the start of her symptoms , I went to the STD clinic.  As far as the doctor at the STD clinic could tell, I did not have any STD but need full results from blood test which I will get in another week.  The same day, I took her to the emergency room of the best hospital in our area (White Plains Hospital Center in NY).  The female ER doctor examined my fiance's vagina, and pelvic regioni, and took a sample. After the doctor examined her, the ER doctor said she would treat me for "trich" also, but she took the sample to the back.  I don't know if they did any type of test.  They also took my fiance's Urine sample.  After 30 minitues of waiting in the hospital room, the ER nurse came in and gave my fiance a shot in the buttocks and some pills to swallow.  The doctor also prescribed Metrogel.
I asked the ER nurse if my fiance would be ok, and she said yes.  they didn't even say she need to follow up with another doctor.

Anyway,  I asked what my fiance was diagnosed with, and the ER nurse said "Bacterial Vaginitis".

We got the Metrogel the next day and used it that night.  The next day her "pimples" were gone, and the "yellow discharge" had also stopped.

I called the hospital to talk to the ER doctor who saw my fiance and got a hold of her.  The ER doctor said it was not serious, and my fiance had a cervicitus.

I talked to my primary care physician who spoke to the lab who ran the tests, any my primary care doctor said she will be ok.

I had gotten a 2 of misquito bite looking sore about 2 inches above my knee duirng the last 2 days, but these seem to be recurring during hot and humid spells.  I went to the emercency room at the hospital and they told me its not an STD, but tney didn't take any swab or blood test.  Do you think it could be an STD?

My question is this:  Do you think my fiance has an incurable STD?

Although some STDs are "incurable" (e.g., genital herpes, HIV infection, some cases of HPV infection), there is no known incurable STD that can explain your partner's problems.  Bacterial vaginosis (not "vaginitis") is an overgrowth of bacteria, not usually a sexually acquired problem.  Not all BV, vaginal discharge, cervicitis, or other genital problems in women are due to STD.  It sounds like your partner's providers and your own have reassured you.  The mosquito bite-like spots don't sound like any STD.

You and your partner need to follow up with your own health care providers.  If you're not confident they are on top of everything, then get a second opinion, perhaps by visiting your local health department STD clinic.  I have no other advice and can't help further.

Doctor,

Just one a few other things I want to mention before her symptoms started.  We had sex about 3 times using a regular latex condoms during the same week of the start of her symptoms and she didn't have any symptoms.  The night after we started the with the Trojan brand spermicial condoms was when her symptoms first appeared.  As I mentioned before,  I was didnt wear a condom for about 3-5 minutes when I was in her on 3 of those nights, but I did not ejaculate.

I took her to the emergency room of the hospital 5 days after her symptoms first appeared.

The day after the ER room visit and the day after using Metrogel, her symptoms completely disappreared.

She has told me any other problems with her.  Like pains or anything.

Sorry about previous post.  I meant to say she has said she has no other symptoms.

The additional information doesn't alter my conclusions or advice.

Thanks for reply doctor .    I will follow up with my primary care doctor.  I apologize if the tone of my messages made me sound some what impatient because I posted several messages on one thread.

I had become really anxious after talking to the National Herpes Hotline this week.  One of the people that I spoke to at the hotline told me that even a recurring "insect bite looking sore on the thigh" could be a symptom of herpes. That is why I went to the emergency room at the hospital. Mine isn't a blister, but seems to occur when its hot and humid.

Sorry to hear about the STD hotline response, but not surprised.  *Sigh*  For ~20 years the American Social Health Association (www.ashastd.org) had the contract from CDC to run the national STD/HIV hotline.  For complex reasons, ASHA lost that contract recently; CDC's STD Division badly wanted to continue with ASHA but it wasn't possible.  The new contract outfit may someday up to speed, but at the moment the quality of the service is far below where it needs to be.  Technically, it may be true that such a lesion could be herpes; the ASHA hotliners would have known how to flesh out more information to make a more accurate assessment.
