Still concerned

Dear. Dr(s).

I sure you will read my recent post so no need repeating other than something I thought was a nonissue.

During my trip, and I think right after the event.  I had dry lips and what I thought was the start of a cold sore (was not) but  have what appear to be Fordyce bumps on upper lip (small white some flat and some raised) and had/have some fluid filled bumps inside my upper lip.  The fluid filled bumps  have gone down after a few days, but still are in process of receding after a little over a week.  I looked at the back of my through and it appears white like thrush.

Just now I noticed small white bump developing in the outside edge of my upper lip and it appears to be a cold sore coming on; It feels sore.  I have been using Blistex and swabbing alcohol and peroxide on the Fordyce spots, about 10 that show (they do not hurt, but can become irritated if I rub my tongue over them forcefully or scrape my teeth over them)

I have had many of these things including cold sores, but not for some time so the timing has me dwelling on it.  Should I still be worried.  I know I'm back again, but I just don't know enough about what should be a real concern and what could just be a normal random occurrence.  I really don't want to cry wolf but I don't want to tell my doctor the entire story unless I really have to.

My concern is if I could have gotten anything from the nipple kissing/sucking?  Thrush, HSV2,some other thing.   This has been lingering for going on 6-7 weeks in one form or another.

How many times do you expect me to keep giving the same opinion in different words?

"If you want to let me know the result if and when you have been tested, that will be OK.  Except that, I won't respond to any further comments on this thread."

Any other comments will be deleted without reply.

Thanks,

My main concern here from the beginning is HSV2 that you insist is a non-issue.  The other items were just background info.

So, probable Negative result still supports your no-risk assessment?

I'll not reply again until testing

I recommend against HSV blood testing.  If positive, it will not explain your symptoms -- it will only mean you have asymptomatic HSV-2 plus other, unknown cause(s).  But if you'll feel better with the probable negative result, do it 3-4 months after the sexual exposure you are obsessing about.  The brief courses of anti-HSV drugs you have had won't affect the result.

If you want to let me know the result if and when you have been tested, that will be OK.  Except that, I won't respond to any further comments on this thread.

Thanks Doc.

I logically agree, and think there is nothing else you can do for me here.  I need to just get the herpes select test for type 2 and put this to bed once and for all.  I'm really tied of chasing all this symptom noise that drives me back to this site.

How long do I need to wait until taking the test after these antiviral drugs for a reliable result?

Recurrent oral herpes usually doesn't cause sores inside the mouth, and if it were, it would have cleared up on famciclovir.  Herpes responds equally well to all the anti-HSV drugs, so I'm sure the valacyclovir will make no difference; it was pointless of your doctor to prescribe it. In any case, oral herpes isn't an STD, and your other symptoms don't fit with any STD either.  Your symptoms have absolutely nothing to do with the sexual exposure you have described.

That's all I have to say.  Continue to work with your doctor if your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned.

Please note that MedHelp allows no more than 2 questions every 6 months on each of the professionally moderated forums (see Terms and Conditions).  This being your second in 3 months, it will have to be your last until October or thereabouts.

Dr.
I just noticed two lesions of about 1.5 MM in diameter and about 15. MM apart on my inner thigh.  They were open yesterday, but now they are closed and scabbed over.  These are located  about 2 – 3 inches below my scrodum  towards the of my leg.  Basically where your legs could rub together while walking.   Last week I was on the treadmill for about 40 min for the first time in a few months, and  towards the end of the fast inclined walk, I could feel irritation in that very area due to friction.  This is common, and I am not overweight.  I looked and both sides of the inner thigh were red and slightly swollen.  A day or two after I took a long walk and could feel more irritation and some increased irritation, but this is normal and I did not look when back at hotel.  3 or 4 days after  (two night ago, I went for a 3 hour walk and could feel the irritation again.  When I got back to the hotel and showered, the soap stung and I looked to find the two open , flat lesions described above.  The was no raised area or pain around the spots, but they did sting if you directy toughed them.  Other than that, there is no pain, itching, burning or anything.  I put some dexaltin paste on them and the next day they had scabbed over.  I don’t know if or when they were blisters..
I also had a chaffing rash on the same side, at the crease between the scrodum and thigh.  This is common at times when I walk a lot. This has basically gone away without scabs and appears typical.
So , the two flat scabbed spots have me concerned as I have had a boil or two there in the past from irritation, but don’t remember two flat blisters before.
Note: before I traveled, 2 weeks ago, my doctor looked at my lips and though it was allergy, but prescribed Famciclovir, 250mg, twice a day for 7 days just  to be safe after I asked him if it could be contagious.  This did not do anything other than perhaps make my face swell a little and give me blotches toward the end og the 7 days.  This being said, I went back to the original forighn doctor and he said allergy or oral herpes.  Gave me  Valacyclovir  with the same dosage and duration of five days 2X a day, and Clarityne 10mg one a day for 10 days.  The swelling went down, the ramdom pinpoit pains basically went away, but the mouth stuff is stiff running it’s course.
I found a picture from 11 years ago and it shows the same lip issue, either from strep or  after a cold sore. Doctor at that time tried to treat it like strep, then shingles, then I think she eventually gave me antibiotics and noted that see was surprised it responded and I would have to push a doctor next time to treat it as bacterial, oposite of conventional treatment.  It went away at that time.
Thoughts?

I'm sorry you remain so concerned about a no risk event.  There's really nothing more to say beyond our discussion a few weeks ago.  You describe no symptoms that suggest any STD.  White spots in the throat or coated tongue are not the same as thrush, and they occur from time to time in healthy people and those with minor viral infections.

Since you apparently have had recurrent oral herpes for some time, and now may be having a typical outbreak, I see no reason to think it has any connection to the risk-free sexual exposure described in your other thread.

As we discussed previously, no STD is ever transmitted by oral contact with partners' breasts or nipples.

If your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned, see your doctor and give a complete history.  It is never appropriate to see a doctor an not tell him or her "the full story".  That's tying the doctor's hands, reducing the chance s/he can make a proper diagnosis and give correct treatment.  Not smart!

In any case, for sure you have no STD -- and that's the only topic for this forum, so there's nothing more I can offer.  There's nothing you can think of that would possibly change my opinions or advice, so no need to ask and I won't have any more comments.  Best of luck.
