These answers will conclude this thread. There will not be further answers:
1. No further testing is needed. Believe the tests.
2. PLEASE, enough anxiety driven questions. Very low.
3. You can go see a dermatologist at any time.
A yeast infection is possible and in some cases this does not respond to topical therapy.
Over and out. EWH
There really is no reason that you should not be able to get your test results back in less than a week. I'd check with the doctors. At the current time, once specimens are received in the lab testing only takes a few hours.
Other than perhaps a repeat gram stain done in the walk-in clinic, I do not recommend antibiotics for your situation without a positve test. Taking antibiotics without a clear indication will only confuse things and put you at risk for drug reactions, yeast infections, etc. EWH
Lets go straight to your questions.
1. Some of your symptoms (discomfort) might suggest STDs but even that really does not suggest STD since if it were due to STD it would be there continuously, not come and go. The other symptoms (dribbling) do not suggest STD at all. What your symptoms do suggest however is that you are paying much closer attention to genital sensations than usual and that is most likely what you are noticing.
2. Yes, your tests for typical STDs will be accurate and should be believed.
3. When your tests and hers are both negative you can forget about STDs.
Take care . EWH
Dr. Edward Hook,
STD Test came back Negative!
Girlfriends came back Negative (although that is irrelavant she both my "events" were after her test was completed)
You have been Extremely HELPFUL and your promptness to responses is MUCH APPRECIATED due to the anxiety I was feeling. I guess I have learned my lesson.
Anyway, now FINAL & LAST question....now that I have my test results back, and still continue to have some pain/irritation in my penis (which I find is extremely coincidental given the timing of these events/affairs), I am still worried that it could be an STD since my test was only done 7.5 days after my last exposure.
1. Do you recommend a follow-up test or can I be 99% certain that I am free and clear?
2. What are the chances that due to the timing of my last exposure, that the testing did not catch a possible STD?
3. If this irritation (possible infection) in penis does not clear, how long do you suggest I wait until going to the doctor to have it looked at (as maybe it will clear on its own?)?
I know my girlfriend was told that she had "a lot" of yeast in her vagina upon her pap smear last month....and maybe this irritation is related to a possible MALE YEAST INFECTION? .....although wouldn't the cream the presribed cream that I rubbed on it for 4 days clear it up?
Thats the last of my questions. THANKS AGAIN DR. HOOK!
Keep up your great work & Best regards!
Great. Thanks Dr. Hook.
Last & Final Question:
Since I won't have my test results probably until the new year (due to christmas holidays etc.,,) and my irritation (feels like something is in the end of my penis and is just sitting there...although no pain upon urination or any other symptoms) continues to be present, do you suggest I go to a walk-in clinic and explain my possible exposure and get treated for chym/gono and maybe also ask for some other medication as well (just in case it is just an infection of somesort)?
Thoughts.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
If your tests are positive, she has been exposed and by definition needs to be treated. While inaccurate tests are typically very rare, all persons recently (30 to 60 days) exposed to a partner with STD should be treated. Beyond that, I will say no more until you have your test results. EWH
Thanks Doc, Much Appreciated.
If my test comes back positive......and hers negative.....is there possibility that an STD would have been transfered back a year ago and that her recent test was somehow inaccurate/incorrect? I know she didnt do any blood or urine...just the swab. How common is an inaccurate STD test for chlamedyia/gono?
