To Dr. HHH

Dr. HHH,
About a month ago i visited a sex worker and I received protected oral from her but performed oral on her vaginally and anally unprotected.  A few days later, I had a sore throat that was pretty severe but went away after 4 days because I took loads of vitamin c.
I was worried about catching something in my mouth so i received a throat culture to test for gonorrhea and herpes and both came back negative (6 days post exposure).  I am worried bc i felt like the doc barely scraped my throat when getting a sample.  Is that common?
About  two weeks after exposure I got a full panel of early detection std tests done thru urine and blood and all came back negative.
I was ready to move on but now my girlfriend has a serious urinary tract infection and I have been performing unprotected oral on her as well as unprotected vaginal sex. And oh yea i found out that she is 10 weeks pregnant.
Iam freaking out please help!!!!!

STOP!!!!!!!!!    Your anxieties and guilt are apparently out of control.  Your GF's eye infection is not a manifestation of an STD that you acquired through the contact you describe.  You REALLY need to move on.  EWH

I know that I said my last thread would be my last but i have just one more concern.  Iam tying to move on bc you said that I am at no risk for std infection or transmission but when I came home my girlfriend was complaining of having a eye infection in just one eye.  It is not very common for her to get these so I was just wondering if this was a sign of chlamydia.  I just think that it is strange for her to have uti and eye infection in two days.  If I tested negative for gonorrhea does that also mean a negative result for chlamydia?? Is eye infection common std symptom??
Thanks!!

Macrobid is a sulfa drug.  it would not be effective for most TD pathogens.  It is widely used in preganant women becasue is is proven to be safe in this circumstnace.  EWH

Thank you so much for your comments.  My last question is: My girlfriends doctor suggested that she take  Macrobid in order to clear up her urinary tract infection.  If by some CRAZY chance she did receive an std that causes urinary tracts infection, would macrobid clear that up as well??
I know I am being ridiculous right now but just thought I would ask. This will be my last thread bc I know this is a bit eccentric.

Thanks so much for your help. God Bless!

Welcome to our Forum.  Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum.  You got me.  FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients.

Try not to worry.  Your tests show that you did not have STDs and I suspect that your GF's urinary tract infection is just a co-incidence.  UTIs are very common in pregnancy.

To provide a bit more detail.  Please remember that your partner may not have had an STD or any sort- in fact it is unlikely that she did (most CSWs do not have STDs).  Even if she did, most exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection and it is probably harder to get an oral infection than  a genital infection due to anatomical differences.

Your throat did not have to be vigorously swabbed to get a positive culture.  I would believe your cultures.

Bottom line., You do not have to worry.  You do not have an STD from this exposure and you have not put your GF at risk.  Take care.  EWH
