Unprotected Sex

Married 9 years. Last week had unprotected sex (i asume as i dont carry condoms)) with Baltic Girl. First time ever in my life having unprotected sex with anyone other than my wife. Do not use prostitutes at all. Have two problems to address. One is drink, blackouts (no this isnt an excuse it is a problem I have to face, now i relise this) and the other is unprotected sex last week. Couldnt remember anything bar a lady in the taxi on the way home and one second of someone in the bed (Scary, ashamed etc etc) . Woke up following morning and put dettol on penis. Skin peeled slightly and penis started burning 5 days after. Ididnt and havent any discharge at any ocasion before or during treatment. I visited local Urologist immediatey. Have completed Zithromax for 3 days and now taking Ciprobay 750 for 5 days. Dont know results of tests, they just automatically give medicine over here.

I have some questions;

1. What is Zithromax for? chlamydia? is it curable permanently?

2. What is Ciprobay 750 1 x 2times daily for? Gonorrhea? is it curable permanently?

3. Should i have told doctor about dettol? could that have been problem?

4. Upon completion of both tablets when is it safe to have sex again?

5. In future blood tests will if I contracted chlamydia or Gonorrhea will this show up?

6. Is there any way after completing the prescribed medication that I can infect my wife or that I may become infected again (without stating the obvious, dont do it again)?

7. What can I do to get support for drinking as nobody realises how bad I am (My family dont arrive till September). By that they will say that I am being stupid and I cant really tell them what happened or ill lose everything?

Thanks

Shane

I phoned teh doc and he informed me that no bacteria was present and i was clear. I finished the antibiotics two days ago ad now i have small spots on my penis head and just the foreskin area. They are very small but i dont know what theyare. Do you have any idea? what STD's could cause this (16 days after event) and should i go to doctor again?

Thanks

3.  Thanks for the clarifcation on the dettol. It is the likely culprit for your symptoms.

4.  You're likely safe once your treatment is completed, other than the caveats I mentioned earlier.  I think you're safe.  EWH

1. Yes Zithromax contains azithromycin
2.  Yes ciprobay is ciprofloxacin
3. My apologies for assuming you know dettol, dettol is not a medication it is a disenfectant, antibacterial(for cuts bruises scalds etc should be diluted with water which i did not do)
4. The question was when is it safe?

You have apparently had a single exposure to someone who may be at relatively high risk for STD and possibly HIV.  You are unaware of all the details so we have to start with some generalizations about risk and then go from there.  Most commercial sex workers (CSWs), despite being at higher risk, do not have STDs or HIV.  In addition, a single exposure to an infected sex partner usually does not result in infection (the transmission rates for different STDs differ between them but for female to male transmission, none of the rates exceed about 20% per episode of intercourse and for some, like HIV, the risk is far smaller, like 0.01% per sex act).  Thus you can take some comfort there.  Now lets move forward to what we know about.  In doing so, you mention several medications I am unfamiliar with so I need to ask you to clarify if possible.

1.   Zithromax is azithromycin.  It is recommended, curative therapy for chlamydia and NGU.  In addition, the dose used for chlamydia cures some but not all gonorrhea as well.  Finally, taking it will likely prevent development of syphilis if you were exposed.
2.  My guess is that this is another name for ciprofloxacin, a medication which will cure most but not all gonorrhea (some strains are resistant).  If you got gonorrhea and the ciprofloxacin did not cure it, you will most likely develop a discharge from your penis in short order (a few days).
3.  I'm not sure what this is but yes, you should always tell doctors what other medications you've taken.
4.  See above- probably
5.  No. Once the infections are cured there is no further evidence of infection.
6  No, you should be OK, given the caveats above.
7.  This is beyond the scope of this forum however, if you are a problem drinker and it sounds like you may be, you need the support of at least your family and then to seek discrete help.  IN the US that would be alcoholics anonymous.

Good luck.  EWH
