Urge to urinate/discomfort in the urethra, glans

First let me thank you for the great forum and all the helpful information!

My porblem is for the past few days, I've had the urge to urinate alot. almost a feeling of irritation inside the urethra.  I feel more aware of it and it's just a general discomfort.  I had breif unprotected contact during intercourse where my penis was in and out during foreplay 2 times when I quickly realized and put on a condom.

I had a urinalysis done which came back clean-the doctor suggested that it may be in part due to dehydration due to the heat and over caffeination(i was drinking a fair amount of caffeine).  I don't have any discharge or pain-just discomfort in the opening and down the urethra.  I feel a slight stinging at the opening as well, along with this urge to urinate.  No other symptoms either.  

Should I still be concerned about possible infection and if so, what could be the possiblities?  Can such a breif exposure during intercourse cause me to catch something?  Should i return for more tests?

Hi , Just recently I have had a "gassy" discomfort in my pelvic area, i feel like i need to defecate or pass gas. I also have more urge to pee, there is no cloudy discharge. It doesn't really hurt in my penis region when i pee but more in the bladder area. Can you help me out??

I was considering a very similar post when this one came up. I have the same symptoms after similar level of contact, although my contact also included unprotected oral sex (both ways) with a female co-worker.

My symptoms came on after less than 24 hrs, more like 15,(needing to urinate more often) and by 36hrs this urge to urinate developed in earnest.  After 7 days the discomfort in the urethra started but is not consistently there. If I drink a lot of water it passes through me very quickly. No discharge at all and no pain in urination just the need urinate a lot.

I have had similar symptoms before in 1997 and 2001 after unprotected sex (also very one off occasions) but tests for usual suspects came back neg. Even went back a second time in 2001 as symptoms were still present after three weeks. Still negative results. Symptoms eventually disappear but cannot remember how long it takes.

Do you think there is a risk of an STD here. I am married and appreciate I need help because of the re-occurance of these events. But I am now going out of my mind with worry. Does the fact that the symptoms are identical (again) and nothing was found in those ctwo other cases mean it could be a psychological reaction due to guilt etc. Believe me I am feeling very guilty.

I have discussed with co-worker and she has no STD symptoms, considers herself to be careful, and has only had sex on two other occasions in the last 12 months (both protected as she does not use any birth prevention).

Appreciate a quick answer as I am going out of my mind at the moment. Am avoiding all sexual contact with my wife in case of infection.

Your questions have basically been answered anyway, in my reponse to mickeymack.   Your symptoms don't suggest STD.

Thank you for your help Dr!  Is there a particular test that is better than others to check for STD/NGU?  Is a urine culture adequate or is a urethral swab needed?

There is no single test for NGU.  Generally you can be confident you don't have it if you notice no discharge, a trained health care provider sees no discharge, and the urinalysis shows no increased white blood cells in the first part of the voided urine--i.e., the first 1-2 tablespoons, basically a urethral wash-out.  However, routine urinalysis is usually done on a midstream urine.  Docs should request the initial part of the stream when evaluating for STDs, as is done when urine is tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

But absence of discharge plus even a standard urinalysis is pretty good reassurance.

That symptom is not especially suggestive of any STD, and the exposure you describe is unlikely to have infected you.  However, if your doctor only did a standard urinalysis, it could have missed gonorrhea, chlamydia, or NGU.  If your symptoms persist, considerr visiting your local health department STD clinic.
