Very Worried STD risk

hello. I recently (3 days ago) had an encounter with a girl i met in a club.  She was from south africa, which is why my concern is heightened. We made out (french kissing) and i inserted two fingers in her vagina for a small period of time.  I later touched my own penis with the same hand.  Of note, her vagina smelled bad...i read online that this could be a symptom of clymidia, so i went to a pharmacy and got 1 G of zithromax the next day.  I took this orally. I am married with 3 children and i'm just crazy with guilt and worry.  I have a tingling in the tip of my penis, basically it feels like i sort of have to urinate.  But when i do go, there is a normal amount of volume and no pain.

My questions are obviously:
1. what is my risk of HIV
2. What is my risk of another std
3. Did i take the zithromax too soon to be effective?

Thank you so much, i know you answer similar questions and i've read your answers, but i need to here your response to my specific situation to put my mind at ease. Thank you doctors

Welcome to the forum.

You overreacted.  No STD can be transmitted by kissing, fingering, or other hand-genital contact, even if she had chlamydia or any other STD.  (A strong vaginal odor is not suggestive of chlamydia, but of certain vaginal infections, especially bacterial vaginosis or trichomonas.)  I would have recommended against self-treatment with azithromycin, but it probably has done you no harm.  As for HIV, it cannot be sexually transmitted unless there is genuine unprotected sex -- a bare penis (no condom) inside another person's vagina or anus.

To your specific questions:

1) There is no risk of HIV, even if your partner had it.

2) Also no risk of any other STD.

3) There is no such thing as taking an antibiotic "too soon to be effective".  You didn't need it, based on the exposure, but if somehow you had been exposed to chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis, it would have protected you.

In summary, there is no need for worry, no need to be tested, and if you have a regular partner, you can safely continue unprotected sex without fear of transmitting HIV or any STD.

I hope this has been helpful.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Thank you dr. that makes me feel so much better that i haven't endangered my family through my stupidity.

I did neglect to mention one thing however, i took my contacts out about 10-15 minutes after the incident, is there any hiv risk there?
