Very very scared

Hi Alice how are you. I have some major concerns and really need some council, I am becoming increasingly nervous. I am a white heterosexual non drug using man. I am from the the states but living in Peru at the moment. I have had several sexual partners since I have been here but have used a condom none have broke or come off, however on two occasions there was a little blood that blood did get on my skin around the base of my penis, however there were NO cuts, nicks, sores or breaks in my skin of any kind. The major reason for my concern is that now I have developed a low grade fever about 100 to 101 I have had it for 3 days now and it doesnt seem to want to go away:( also my head hasnt felt right, it kind of hurts. I am freaking out thinking that this fever is my body sero-converting if no blood got on to the tip and there were NO cut in my skin, how concered about this fever should I be??

No STD causes such symptoms.  HIV is the only possibility, but the sexual exposures you describe carried virtually no risk for HIV-- and in any case, the symptoms are identical to those of innumerable garden variety viruses and other kinds of illness.

Anybody with unexplained illness they are worried about, especially with fever, should see a health care provider.  Do that if your symptoms are severe or if they get worse over the next couple of days.  But there is no reasons to suspect an STD or HIV.  Most likely it has nothing at all to do with your sexual exposures.

As you saw before you posted your question, this forum doesn't deal with HIV/AIDS issues.  If you have further concerns along that line, please visit the HIV Prevention and Safe Sex forum.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
