OK, prostatitis, not proctitis. True prostatitis is rare in men under age 40, and sexually acquired nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) is often misdiagnosed as prostatitis by physicians not up to speed on STDs. I wonder whether that's what you really had. True prostatitis is not due to any STD.
It is possible but uncommon to catch NGU from oral sex. As for your test results, the gonorrhea and chlamydia results show for sure you were not infected during the oral sex 2 weeks ago. You were tested much too soon to detect syphilis or HIV (4-6 weeks is the earliest), but there is no chance for either of those infections from that event so it doesn't matter and you don't need any further testing.
All your other follow-up questions are repeat of ones you asked originally and which I already answered. Read my original reply carefully. I haven't changed my mind.
Dear Doctor Handsfield,
I just received a call from the doctors office and all tests were negative for Clymd, Gonn, Syf, HIV, etc. I want to thank you for your time and reading all the anxiety based emails I sent. I was certainly a learning experience not to repeat. I do have one final question, since I was taking Augmentin when the STD tests were performed are the results accurate? Should I worry? Tip of penis still feels funny, but has gone away slightly after receiving call.
Promise, this is my last email.... Happy New Years!
I am so sorry to raise one more item, I did not have oral with my girlfriend, two days later I had unprotected intercourse, thus is it likely I could give her something if I caught something?
Thank You for you prompt response I do have follow-up questions:
1) I have had prostitis not proctitis before, is there a chance I got a germ from the oral that has caused prostitis?
2)By me irritating my penis squeezing etc, the burning/irritated feeling could occur? How long could it last?
3)What are the chances of getting urethritis?
I am sorry for asking these questions since I think between the lines you already answered most. Your response is appreciated. Until then, I will wait for the test results to come in this week. Thank you
You asked the same question on the STD community forum and had accurate responses from auntjessie. Also, your doctor is correct about STDs not presenting with the symptoms you describe. To the specific questions:
1) Oral sex is safe sex, in general -- not perfectly safe, but much less risky than vaginal or anal sex. Further, the Augmentin would have protected you from gonorrhea, one of the possible infections that can be acquired by receiving fellatio.
2) Absolutely you can irritate the penis by repeated squeezing and looking for discharge. Keep your hands off for a few days and stop looking so hard. If you aren't having enough discharge to stain your underwear, don't worry about it. Also, if you suspect your own symptoms are "in your mind", it's a good bet they are.
3) If you caught something, you could have transmitted it 2 days later. But this is so unlikely that it isn't worth worrying about. As I said, oral sex is safe sex.
4) Proctitis is inflammation of the rectum. You can't catch it by exposure of the penis. Even though the two organs are fairly near each other, there is no anatomic connection between them.
If your symptoms continue, of course return to your doctor for further evaluation. But I see no serious worries here.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
