Worried about my ex

Im a male, a little over 6 weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex that lasted about 10 minutes with a girl that I later found out has been with a lot of guys. I got tested at the 5 week post exposure mark and tested negative for everything except for HSV 1. The reason why i did that instead of waiting 6-8 weeks was because I had never been tested before. I plan on going back in two weeks to get conclusive results for HIV, Hep B, Hep C, and Syphillis. I had unprotected oral sex with my ex twice after being with that girl and Im concerned I might have given her something.I have a few questions.

1. Ive had an infection in my mouth from my wisdom teeth for a little over a week now and yesterday my dentist prescribed me Clindamycin. 300 mg. I have taken 4 capsules since then, and it just now dawned on me that I might not be able to find out if I had gotten syphillis from that girl. Is it too late and should I be worried I might have gotten syphillis and given it to my ex even after a negative test at 5 weeks?

2. Should I get tested again for Hepatitas C? I know its really not an STD but the girl was on her period and I had popped a pimple like bump that was on my penis 2 or 3 days before the exposure (bump was self inflicted). Could that possibly put me at risk for transmission for Hep C?

3. I tested positive for HSV . I have a younger sister who has had cold sores her whole life and as far back as I can remember Ive never had cold sores but its possible I was to young to remember. Would it be safe to assume that I was probably born with HSV 1?

4. Ive had no symptoms what so ever for HSV 2 but I know thats not enough to be sure. Would you recommend that i go back and get tested for HSV 2 at the 12-16 week mark?

5. Last question which I think I already know the answer to but Im looking for reassurance. I had been taking ibuprofen a week straight (every 4-6 hours) prior to my 5 week test. Would that have any effect on my 5 week test results?

Welcome to our forum.  I'll be pleased to address your questions. Before I get to your specific questions, let me tell you that the fact that your partner had a large number of other, prior partners does not by any means suggest that she had any STD (in fact it is statistically unlikely that she was infected) and, even if they did, the fact is that most exposures to infected partners do not result in infection. The tests that you have essentially rule out most STDs.  FYI, hepatitis C is not an STD among heterosexual men and women and there is no reason for re-testing.  Further, given your current results, the chances that you will develop syphilis or a positive HIV test are extraordinarily low as well.

Let’s work through your specific questions:

Clindamycin would not change your risk or your test results for syphilis.

2. Should I get tested again for Hepatitas C? I know its really not an STD but the girl was on her period and I had popped a pimple like bump that was on my penis 2 or 3 days before the exposure (bump was self inflicted). Could that possibly put me at risk for transmission for Hep C?

No, the bump on your penis does not change your risk for hepatitis C. there is no risk for hepatitis C from the exposure you describe.

3. I tested positive for HSV . I have a younger sister who has had cold sores her whole life and as far back as I can remember Ive never had cold sores but its possible I was to young to remember. Would it be safe to assume that I was probably born with HSV 1?

You, like most American with the infection probably acquired HSV-1 ant an oral site during childhood.  Over 60% of U.S. Americans have HSV-1, of whom only about 10-20% are aware that they are infected.  The chances that you got HSV-1 from the exposure you have described are astronomically low and not a concern.

4. Ive had no symptoms what so ever for HSV 2 but I know thats not enough to be sure. Would you recommend that i go back and get tested for HSV 2 at the 12-16 week mark?

No, in the absence of an outbreak and with a negative at 6 weeks, there really is no meaningful risk of HSV-2 either.

5. Last question which I think I already know the answer to but Im looking for reassurance. I had been taking ibuprofen a week straight (every 4-6 hours) prior to my 5 week test. Would that have any effect on my 5 week test results? .

No, this would have no effect on your test results.

At this time I urge you to be confident that you did not get an STD from the encounter you describe.  I hope that you have found my comments reassuring on this topic.  EWH

Thank you very much for your time and this will be my last question. Sorry just so Im clear IF I did catch syphillis from the exposure 6 weeks ago it would still show up on the test in 2 weeks even though Im taking an antibiotic now? Im only asking because my ex gave me unprotected oral sex twice after the exposure and Im worried that IF I did catch syphillis from that girl it will be cured before I get my conclusive result and ill never know if I put my ex at risk.
