Worried

Hi,

About 3 weeks ago I had protected vaginal sex but received unprotected oral (fellatio) from a female CSW in Thailand.

About 1 to 2 weeks ago I started having pain when urinating at the tip of the penis, and when I ejeculated (from masturbation) the tip of my penis was bright red at the opening.

I went about 4 days ago to the clinic to be tested for gonnerhea/chlamydia.  I was treated with Azyrithmicin (1gm) and Suprax (400 mg).  I haven't got the test results yet.

Now lately I have been in panic mode looking on the internet for everything I might have.  I did get pinkeye as well about 2 days ago.  I also felt a lot of anal itching after taking the medication. I am just starting to feel better now from the symptoms.

But I am worried sick about other diseases such as herpes, gential warts and HIV.  To make matters worse, i noticed 3 pin sized flesh colored bumps on my penis shaft just below the head.  I dont't think they were there before.

Do you think I have any 3 of these diseases as well? or could this be a symptom of the gonorrhea or chlamydia? or reaction to medication?  I hope I don't have anything else

Oral sex may be a possible source, but unlikely.  The incubation period for MC is generally believed to be 1-3 months.  As I said before, if you are convinced the bumps are new, you should have them professionally examined.  There isn't any point in continuing to speculate or in trying to figure out a diagnosis through this or any other online source.

That should end this thread.  Take care.

There could a slight dimple I cant tell because they are so small, no redness though.  Could MC grow in 2 or 3 weeks and be acquired from the oral sex?

Thanks

Herpes causes inflammatory lesions (blisters, open sores) that last no more than 2 weeks until healed.  It does not cause fleshy bumps.

However, with this additional description, I would wonder about molluscum contagiosum.  MC  is a trivial viral infection with no complications.  MC lesions typically are red-pink and shiny, and as they enlarge they often develop a central dimple.  If expressed like a pimple, they contain a hard white core, and there is brisk bleeding afterward.

I think we can eliminate that the bumps are warts then.  Could this be herpes? They are not red, almost look like little pimples a little white, perfectly round only two of them.

Thanks

The ciprofloxacin would probably prevent or cure gonorrhea, not merely suppress it or delay a positive test result.  Some gonorrhea strains are resistant, but in that case you would have had full-blown symptoms within 5 days of catching it.

I agree the occurrence of an asthma flare is consistent with a viral respiratory infection, e.g. with adenovirus.

The fleshy bumps on your penis are unrelated to any of this.  If you are convinced they are new, get checked for warts.   But most "soft" bumps are normal anatomic anomalies of penile skin.  If warts, they precede the exposure described; warts typically show up 3-12 months after exposure.

Viral conjunctivitis should resolve within 1-2 weeks, maybe faster.

Sorry, one additional question to two other questions above.

The urethritis does seem to be improving.  How long does it normally take for viral conjunctivitis to begin to clear? I am in the day 3 of those symptoms. My left eye is a little swelled. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse.  I was just wondering the normal course of this. Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.  It was about 2 weeks after returning that I developed the urethral symptoms.  Now I was taking Cipro as a defensive measure against traveler's diarrhea while I was there and for 3 days after I returned.

Could this have delayed the gonorrhea symptoms?

I suspect you may be correct, though, because I have been having some asthma as well in the evenings along with my sinuses bothering me, which is some additional information that could lead to conclude to a virus instead.  Also because of the time change, I was only getting 3 hours of sleep per night for a whole week when I returned, so I was fairly run down as well.
One last question, could the adenovirus cause the 2 or 3 pin sized flesh colored bumps on my penis shaft as well? or could this be herpes or warts from this exposure?

Welcome to the forum.  I'll try to help.

It would be careful to have a bit more information about the timing of your symptoms. Exactly how long after the oral exposure in Thailand did you first develop urethral discomfort?  Gonorrhea would generally cause symptoms within 5 days.  Chlamydia is virtually never acquired by oral sex and is not a serious consideration, unless you had other sexual exposures in the preceding month or two.  Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) can be acquired by oral sex, but usually causes discharge as the primary symptom.

One possibility is adenovirus, which could have been acquired by oral sex -- or could be from just a garden variety, non-STD exposure.  Adenovirus is one of the common cold viruses, but some strains are prone to cause urethritis, and all adenoviruses probably can cause conjunctivitis (pink-eye).  Since adenovirus is (as the name suggests) a virus, it does not respond to antibiotics, so your continuing urethral symptoms after antibiotic treatment, plus development of conjunctivitis while being treated, argues for a virus.  So all the invormation adds up to a pretty good bet for a viral infection, such as adenovirus.  If that's what you have, your symptoms should clear up on their own within 2-3 weeks.  No complications of urethral adenoviral infections are known.

As implied above, I expect your chlamydia and gonorrhea test results to be negative.  At this point, it's going to be difficult or impossible to know for sure what you have had, especially if it clears up, as I suspect it will soon.  But if the symptoms don't clear up soon, return to the clinic for further evaluation.

I hope this helps.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD
