Worried

Hi Dr's I'm hoping you can answer some questions for me, I made the mistake of reading some forums and wonder if I may have contracted NGU which I have never heard of until reading these forums. I had what I would think was a non risk exposure experimenting with another male. He performed protected oral sex on me and also spit on the head of my penis when the condom wasn't on me and rubbed it in. From everything I have read this is a non risk exposure.  2 weeks later I expereinced frequent urination , and sometimes the urge to urinate even though I didnt need to go.  While I had these symptoms I had a upper repsitory infection and was treated with a standrard Z pack and since that didnt work they also put me on doxycycline for a week.
The frequent urination continued for a couple months so I seeked out a uroligist, standard std test were negative, the dipstick test showed no WBC's . The urinalysis that was sent to the lab showed that their was a tiny bacteria but they werent sure if this was due to cross contamination. My questions are below, the dr took put me on macrobid saying this may help my issue.
1   Prescribed Macrrobid   which I believe has Helped, Would this cure NGU? From what I read Macrobid is generally given for UTI's which im hoping is what I have.  The dr never mentioned NGU to me .
2   If I had NGU my wife was sick and on a Z pack would a standard Z pack cure NGu from her
3  Fpr some reason I caught NGU from the protected encounter , and the unprotected spit that was rubbed into my penis does my wife now need to be treated with Macrobid or would the Z pack have eradicated it from her.
4. A final note the Z pack and doxy that I took didnt help my symptoms but the Macrobid has helped .
5. Should I abstain from sex with my wife
I never would have worried about NGU until I started reading on this forum so hopefully you can shed some light and maybe put my fears at bay

I do not wish to feed your anxieties.  I would not assure you that Macrobid would cure enough of any STI to be counted on.

Time for this thread to end.  EWH

Welcome to our Forum.  I'm sorry reading on our Forum has caused you anxiety, it is designed to help and provide information to our clients but sometimes, in part fueled by guilt or anxiety, it can make folks worry.  I'll try to clarify things.  The event you describe was no risk- there is no meaningful risk for NGU or any other STI from receipt of condom protected oral sex and likewise , there is no evidence that using spit/saliva to lubricate the penis for masturbation poses a risk for STI.  Similarly, the symptoms you describe, principally frequent urination or urinary urgency are not symptoms of STIs.  The laboratory tests that you have had thus far, as well as your non-response to recommended NGU therapy (the doxycycline) further provide evidence that this is not NGU or any other STI.  I think you need to look elsewhere to explain your current symptoms.  Perhaps reading about the CPPS (chronic pelvic pain syndrome which is well described in Wikipedia would be helpful).

let's move on to your specific questions:
1   Prescribed Macrrobid   which I believe has Helped, Would this cure NGU? From what I read Macrobid is generally given for UTI's which im hoping is what I have.  The dr never mentioned NGU to me .
Your symptoms are more suggestive of a UTI than an STI.  Macrobid is not effective for most STIs but is effective for UTI.  I see no reason for you to be worried about NGU.

2   If I had NGU my wife was sick and on a Z pack would a standard Z pack cure NGu from her
NGU should not be a concern for you or for you wife.  That said, while a Z-pak contains the medicines recommended for NGU treatment, they are dosed differently and are less effective for NGU treatment than the recommended treatment with a single 1.0 gram dose of azithromycin.

3  Fpr some reason I caught NGU from the protected encounter , and the unprotected spit that was rubbed into my penis does my wife now need to be treated with Macrobid or would the Z pack have eradicated it from her.

Please give up on the NGU idea - see above. This is your anxiety and/or guilt manifesting itself. There is no reason to think,  or evidence that you have NGU.

4. A final note the Z pack and doxy that I took didnt help my symptoms but the Macrobid has helped .

Noted and commented on above.

5. Should I abstain from sex with my wife
No, I see no reason for you to abstain from sex with your wife.

I hope this helps.  NGU is NOT a concern for you. EWH
