Your advice please

Doctor, I recently engaged in unprotected oral sex with a pro, 36 yo w/children. I am a 35 year old male, healthy. The act took place 9 days ago, was limited to unprotected oral only that lasted only 30 seconds, immediately after I showered and scrubbed my penis inside and out with soap. It started to bother me within an hour, not painful, but just irriation. I have had no other symptoms execpt that. Just irration on the end of my penis, extreme guilt, very frequent urination, no pain in urinating or ejaculation. Sometimes I feel like I had a small discharge, but there is nothing there. Last night my testicles were swollen and sore, but advil took care of that. I have never had any discharge. I know the mind is a powerful thing, am I thinking about it too much and giving myself the symptoms I am describing, am I at that high of a risk, should I be tested? Thanks.

Your symptoms are not due to STD.  STD symptoms typically take more than a day or two to begin following exposure, thus for your symptoms to begin almost immediately after sex makes STD quite unlikely as the cause of your symptoms.

Furthermore, oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs.  Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny.   If you had gotten gonorrhea or NGU you would have most likely developed symptoms of urethritis (penile infection).  Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection.  In your case, your exposure was brief; I would urge you not to worry. If you must, you could go to your local STD clinic or health care provider to be tested at this time.  The tests will be negative and in my opinion, you do not need testing at all.

I hope this helps.  EWH

If she has not been exposed, then there is no need for treatment.  On the other hand, if you are unsure, the last thing you want to do is guess wrong.  EWH

Thanks for the comments, if you may answer this, I havent had sex with my partner since infection began, I see no reason she should need meds, how long should I wait to have sex? Thanks again.

NGU is your most likely diagnosis.  The doxycycline is the right therapy.  The tests he performed would have shown gonorrhea if it was there.  Your partner should be treated using the same drugs that you were (or a single, 1.0 gram dose of azithromycin) prior to having sex with each other.

If I may ask several more questions about my situtation. I saw my Urologist and after examination diagnosed my with acute bacterial prostatis and on my chart he also marked non specific urethritis. He prescribed me with 100 mg Doxycycl hyc twice daily for 20 days by pill. My risk was low as you said, oral only for a brief time, but if I had gonorrhea would the Doxycycl take care of that? I feel much better after 7 days on meds, still have a very slight discomfort on the tip of my penis, all but gone. Can I resume contact with my partner. If it was NGU, is this passable? I am almost through this, and did I learn my lesson, I am a changed man. Please advise, and thanks again.

Glad to hear that your symptoms are improving.  As for where this infection came from, typical STDs rarely, if ever cause prostatitis.  It used be thought that some STDs were caused by STDs but more recent studies have disproved this.  good luck.  EWH

I feel for you too. If I could turn back time, all for 30 secs. What BS. Actually I feel better on the meds doc gave me, not urinating as frequently or as urgently, discomfort going away, maybe in my head, but it is a dream to go to sleep or be so busy you don't think about it. Same symptoms Huh

I feel for you.  I also have been in a similar situation and the guilt and worry about ruining my life have been making me sick.  I've had almost the exact same symptoms but can make them seem to go away if I can just manage to think about something else.  Going through it right now, and do everytime my girlfriend feels a little off (UTI, cramps, whatever) wondering if my idiocy caused it and this is the beginning of the end of our relationship.

Can symptoms of any of the common STDs not show up for several months?  My exposure (also oral) was 4 months prior to the start of having feelings of urethral irritation.  Mine began simultaneous to my gf developing BV.  Probably psychosomatic but I'm still scared.

I saw my Urologist and had a urinalysis, smear test, and prostate exam. He said I had acute bacterial prostatis, put me on antibiotics, and said come back in 3 months. I asked what caused this and he said several things could have. He also said he could see I was losing weight in the urinalysis. I have been so stressed out. Can I rest now, please advise. Still no symptoms, no discharge, only discomfort in the tip of my penis(urethra), and tons of head games, to the point of making me sick.
