gonorrhea question

My partner was treated for gonorrhea of the penis 4 days ago. Dripping/discharged stopped within 24 hours of treatment but he says there is still a tingle in the urethra and slight, but much diminished stinging when urinating. He was treated with 2G Zithromax. Should we be worried that treatment failed or is this residual tingling/odd feeling normal? Thanks!

This could have (and should have) been asked in a follow-up comment in your previous thread with Dr. Hook, at no charge.

Your partner had appropriate treatment for gonorrhea and it often takes 7-10 days for the symptoms to clear up completely.  The substantial improvement so far means the treatment is working as expected.  He should return to the doctor or clinic if any discharge reappears, or if the tingling or painful urination are still present after 10 days -- but most likely they will be gone well before then.
