How reliable is a urine test in females?

hi doctors,
recently i asked a q about trich and i have another q about chl and gon......
how reliable is urine testing in females?
i did initial vaginal swab after 3.5 days after exposure and then did 3 urine tests during 3 months after in a local lab (found on one of std testing web pages - they all list the same labs anyway).
also i noticed more sticky white discharge than usual and burning/itching inside.... like a week ago.. and yesterday i even felt pain there.....
should i retest for chl and gon but vaginally this time or can i finally move on and look for something else that causes it..?
how reliable are these std labs? my gyno said urine test is good enough and didn't test me again for it at her office.
my vaginal trich test came back negative

Welcome back to our forum. As it turns out, I happened to pick up your questions today and will be answering them.

Urine testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia in women is a very reliable test.  The most sensitive test of all for detection of gonorrhea or chlamydia  is now a vaginal swab taken without a speculum by either the patent or her doctor.  Speculum guided swabs taken from the uterine cervix or a urine specimen collected at the beginning of urination is almost as sensitive and in your case, after three negative tests, there is no reason to test further- if an infection had been missed by one urine test, it would have been detected by the second.  I would not worry further about the possibility of gonorrhea or chlamydia as the cause of our discharge and would suggest looking for other causes- bacterial vaginosis is one common cause.

I hope this comment is helpful. EWH

You are perseverating and need to get a grip on yourself and move forward.  Searching the internet is only going to provide misinformation and fuel your unwarranted anxieties.

As to your questions:
1.  Your test results are solid and need to be believed.  The volumeof urine would not dilute out the test to make it invalid.

2. Ganerella (sometimes called bacterial vaginosis) is one cause of vaginal discharge. Without tests it can be mistaken for other STIs bt it does not cause other STIs. You were tested.

3. the timing of your tests was fine.  Ciprofloxacin would be out of your system withn 12-18 hours of your last dose.  Same for most other antibiotics .  You do not need more tests, you need to believe the ones you have.

Please, believe your tests.  EWH

sorry, another thing i forgot to mention:
only vaginal test was done after 3.5 days after the exposure
1st urine test was done after i was off the antibiotic for bladder infection (ciproflxacin), i think a week after - so probably not valid, right?
2nd urine test was done after i was 3.5 weeks off ciprofloxacin
3rd urine test was done after i was off another antibiotic (i can't remember the name) but it was done after 2 months i was off it.
i think all test were naat (definitely 2 &3).
and 2 & 3 I peed in the cup a lot and it was a first morning pee.
would all of that change your opinion about need for additional test?

forgive me, Dr Hook for one more question as I can't get my mind of this topic and I also have an update. turned out I had a gardnerella and was given a metrodinazole vaginal gel to be administered for 5 days.

so far no awful discharge but still discomfort during and after sex and sometimes after urination (sexual discomfort is most likely due to my nervousness). i'm a bit paranoid about these urine tests. the things is that labcorps have these coffee shop size cups for collecting specimen. even though both last times i held it for at least 9 hrs (did first morning pee) i peed worth of normal cup or even more and now I'm afraid that the "first catch" spread in this big amount and there was not enough of it in that little amount that the lab technician took for the test. does it even matter?

my another question is about this gardnerella. i read somewhere that  one of the reasons it gets into your body is another std. basically it can come in a combination with another std or as a result of another std. is that true?

if based on what i write you think i still need another test, how long should i wait after being off the metrogel? would metrogel interfere with the accurate std test results?

thank you very much and i hope this is my last q.

Glad to help.

Typically they use the same commerical labs that serve doctor's office- they make their money as middle men.  EWH
