my wife is -ve for both hpv and hsv,
should i have no sex with her till hpv is cleared?, as condom can not stop hpv transmission. may i kiss her, can she have handjob on me?
one more question, coinfection with hsv2, antiviral daily suppression, are there any bad effect on my hpv clearance?
Antiviral suppressive therapy with valacyclovir, acyclovir or famciclovir for herpes is effective in both reducing outbreaks and the risk of transmission of infection. Valacyclovir is the drug which has been best studied for this purpose.
There are several things that can be done to reduce transmission of herpes. These include taking antiviral suppressive therapy as mentioned above, consistent condom use and not having sex when you have a recurrent outbreak. In the study to evaluate how to reduce herpes transmission, persons who did all of these things transmitted their infections to sex partners at a rate of about 1% per year, on average. EWH
Are there any treatment (trial , or expensive treatment tailored for the patient) possible to
stop the shedding(prevent transmission) available,on a small scale?
can you please quote me the chance i will transmit the virus to my wife , if i am on suppression,(with or without condom), to her mouth if without condom?
Your questions are a bit hard to follow. I will try to address them however.
If you have HPV, it will probably go away by itself over time. Over 95% of HPV infections go away without any other therapy over a period of about 2 years. With treatment, if there is a visible genital wart, your HPV should resolve more quickly.
HPV 31 is not contained in the HPV vaccine but the vaccine should help to protect you from infection with the types of HPV contained in the vaccine (the MERCK vaccine contains HPV types 6, and 11 which cause most visible genital warts and HPV 16 and 18 which cause about 2/3 of cervical cancer in women)..
Regarding your HSV-2. Your blood tests are both positive and, presuming you were tested with a type specific test, I suspect that this is indicative that you have HSV-2. The blood test does not tell you how long you have had the infection so you may have had infection longer than you think. If you have been infected, your wife may be infected as well. The only way to know is for her to be tested with a blood test.
Chronic therapy with valacyclovir taken daily will reduce both your shedding of the virus and your chances of recurrent herpes lesions, on average, by about 65-75%. Without suppressive therapy, most persons with recently acquired HSV-2 get 4-6 outbreaks, on average per year. Some persons have more, some have less.
Transmission of herpes can occur any time a site of infection contacts another person. Thus of you have HSV-2 on your penis and she performs oral sex on you there is a chance shoe could get an oral infection. Having said this, it is rare for HSV-2 to be transmitted to the mouth in the way you suggest. If she has HSV-1 already, that should offer partial but not complete resistance to infection.
Hope this helps. EWH
