positive clamidia, what should I do?

Dear Doc.

About 6 weeks ago I wrote you in the hiv forum, about a sexual experience with a sexual worker and my wife in Brazil,,, today 8 weeks and 3 days after that my wife got her exams, and as you stated, the hiv 1&2 results were negative,,thanks god,,, she got some std tests too.
herpes igg- igm both negative VDRL negative,,, and AC Antichlamidia IGG IGM,,,,IGG came .9 which would be indeterminte,,, and IGM was 1.59 which by the reference values is positive.
What does this positive mean,,, what should we do now? could this have been a result of our sexual experience in brasil?,,, mainly kissing, licking, and fingering, no oral of my wife with the sexual worker,, its been 8 weeks shouldnt she have any syptoms? I am getting tested also I suppouse I should get tested for that too, right?
The name of the tests are the way they came in the results, which are in spanish I hope they are the same in english.
Thanks doctor

I apologize, i was typing fast and made an error.  Type specific blood tests for herpes are quite reliable.  It is the blood tests for chlamydia that are unreliable.  It is quite possible that your wife never had chlamydia or that she had it at some time in the past and it had resolved.

The VDRL test is for syphilis.  You do not have syphilis.

The HIV test is conclusive in your circumstance.  At 8 weeks over 98% of HIV tests that are going to be positive would be.  Given the very low risk nature of your exposure, you can be sure that you do not have HIV.  the results are not affected by the chlamydia test.  EWH

In your answer you mention the blood test positive for herpes most likely represents a past resolved infection,, this is the same for chlamydia also?does this mean posibly she had the clamydia but it  was resolved by it self? or in the case of clamydia blood test , maybe she just didnt have it?

About the 8 week hiv negative, conclusive ? this clamydia results dont make any difference with the hiv results right,, no need for any future testing for hiv either?

What is the VDRL test for?

Thanks again

Blood tests for herpes are very unreliable and when positive are far more likely to represent a past, ressolved infection than a current problem.  Your exposures were low risk.  The proper way to rule out chlamydia is not with a blood test but with a culture or DNA test for the bacteria taken from the potential site of infection.  In my opinion, the results you describe indicate that you have NO STD,  The positive blood test could represent a past, cleared infection but there is nothing to suggest you have an infection at this time.  Hope this helps.  In my opinion you do not need further testing or to worry any more about infection EWH
