prostatitis?

In December I had symptoms of an infection. Burning, discharge the color of elmers glue, and a feeling that I had to urinate all the time. I was away from civilization so I suffered through for about 6 or 7 days. When I got back to town I went to urgent care. The doc there thought I might have gonorrhea. He took a swab of the discharge and sent it to the lab for testing. The test was negative for both gonorrhea and chlamydia. Before the test came back he treated me with 1,000 mg zithromycin and a shot in my butt, 250mg rocephin. Within 48 hours my symptoms were largely gone.

Fast forward 5 months, I do not have the same symptoms but I've never really got back to 100%. I have an on again, off again discomfort. Sometimes near the end of my penis. Sometimes in my testicles. It seems to be worse if I ejaculate. Like it will be irritated later in the day if I masturbate in the morning. It also feels like a kind of "pressure" at the head of my penis if my bladder is full. Riding my bike also makes the symptoms worse. Standing will make the symptoms better.

I suspect that the treatment I received would have cured any std's with my initial symptoms. When the test came back negative the doc thought maybe it was an e coli infection and told me if the symptoms didn't resolve he'd order docycyclene for 10 days. I never went that route though.

So my main questions are, is there further treatment I should be doing? Does this sound like I still have an STD? Am I contagious after the treatment I received?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum.  The title of your question indicates that you are wondering if your problems might be due to prostatitis and I think that is a good possibility.  The therapy that you received would cure common STDs and your more recent   Your continuing symptoms are more consistent with prostatitis than with an STD.  Prostatitis is rarely caused by STD pathogens and can cause exactly the sorts of symptoms that you describe.  Direct pressure such as comes with a bicycle seat can make things a bit worse.  Urologists often care for persons with prostatitis, as do some internists.

Most antibiotics do not get into the prostate gland as well as they get to other sites of infection.  As a result therapy for prostatitis is typically longer than for most infections, 4 weeks and in a substantial portion of persons the therapy may need to be repeated once or twice to take care of the problem.

I hope this information is helpful.  EWH
