yeast??

42 yr old , healthy,no medical hx.
I had a yeast infection on 11/10.my 2nd one in 2 yrs, so I used Monistat3. It burned terribly!-had to wipe it out! Called MD she gave me Diflucan 150 every 3 days for a total of 3 pills. Took 1, started to feel relief, did the gynazol cream that she ordered as well. Itching, discharge gone in about 2 days, but still reddness and slight burning. Didn't take the other pills, started having bad abdominal pains. Blood tests + everything ok, most likely GI related.
Called MD still didn't feel 100%, said to take the rest. Took the 2nd Diflucan 11/20..reddness getting better, burning better.Still notice a small white patch, but getting lighter and more faint ( size of a pea) I plan to take the last one today, then see the MD next week to get a culture to make sure I am negative.

WHen I look inside, I see slight reddness, not as bad as last week, but still there. Plus, I see about 2 or 3 tiny sores? They are about the size of a pea, inside the vagina, on the labia. They are not open, not draining, no pus, nothing filled...just red tiny , slightly raised round areas, it almost looks like a  small cancer sore, but not nearly as bad or angry looking...no issues with urination, doesn't burn or anything.
I just feel a slight "irriataion", still...and I just want to know if this is ok still.

My questions are:

1. could the sores be related to the yeast?( 100 % positive this could not be an STD)

2. is it bad that the yeast hasn't gotten 100 % better by now? Could it be becasue I didn't take the 3 doses as close together as I should have?

3. Could I still get rid of it by now, by taking the 3 rd dose?

4. could the white patch be yeast? Is that what it looks like?

5. is it possible that the small red sores are the result of the Monistat?

6. just got my period, is that going to make things worse??

thanks for your thoughts...I just want this to go away already!!

Yes but unlikely.  If you have HSV-2, it could be an old infection in you or an old infection in your husband, with recent transmission to you.

Understand that I do not believe you have herpes.  This is all speculative.  I do not know what you have.  These are issues for your own doctor.  I will have no further replies.

they are not clear borders for sure...but they are sores, red areas...

could the HSV2 be dormant for 20 years???

"Discrete" must means the lesions have clear borders, i.e. not vague lesions.

Certainly genital HSV-1 is possible.  It causes about half of all first-episode genital herpes, acquired by oral sex.  However, people with oral HSV-1 rarely if ever get a new genital HSV-1 infections.  But unless you and your husband had no other sex partners anytime in your lives, HSV-2 remains a possibility.  Genital HSV-2 can remain dormant for years then finally get transmitted or first show up with symptoms.  How easily you conceive has no bearing on the likelihood of genital herpes, and condoms reduce but do not eliminate the possibility of sexual transmission of HSV-2.

Most likely herpes isn't the problem, especially now that you clarify the lesions are bumps and not open sores.  Still, to be safe it would be reasonable to ask your doctor about that possibility.

No online expert can come up with definitive answers by a written description, especially for someone under the care of an apparently competent provider.  I'll try to help by answering your questions, but this isn't the best source to figure out unexplained female genital symptoms, and in any case this forum is strictly limited to STD issues.

Some yeasts are resistant to the azole drugs, like fluconazole (Diflucan).  So that is a possibility.  However, yeast infection doesn't usually cause discrete ulcers.  If so, taking additional Diflucan won't help.

I'm confused by your description of the sores.  "Not open", yet looks like canker sores, which are open ulcers in the mouth.  Red bumps could be yeast, or any number of other conditions.  An allergic reaction to monistate or some other irritant also might be possible.  The white patch could be yeast.  Your period probably will make no difference either way.

Despite your "100% positive" statement, you should be concerned about herpes, the most common overall cause of genital ulcer lesions.  But that is only speculation.

Bottom line:  Don't try to figure this out on your own or by online searching or advice.  Keep the scheduled follow-up appointment with your doc and follow her advice.  Ask whether she is concerned about herpes on the basis of your symptoms.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
