Considering Accupuncture and update on Jordan

Well, went to Neuro this week and talked to him about the mood swings.  I thought he would say behavioral but yea! he didn't.  He said this was probably brain related with the lesions and frusteration when tired and not feeling well.  He told Jordan he would be mad too!  Prescribed him Lyrica for 14 days from Gaba.  So, I guess we will see if maybe the GABA was working or if the Lyrica is better.  He also prescribed a couple of funny movies (Hitchhikers Guide..., The Onion-horoscope and MP3.com???-last time was Monte Python and the Holy Grail!hee hee) and websites for Jordan-yep, on prescription pad!LOL!  He may not be able to dx this yet but he is wonderful with Jordan and he keeps looking and calling other experts.  If Lyrica doesn't work wants to maybe try IVIG?  Hafta read up on this because I have no idea what that really is and what it will do.

What do you all think of Accupuncture?  Is it worth a try?

I wish we could get to the bottom of all of this!  Ug!  So frusterating!  Getting rain here, KU Jayhawks lost :(!  Hope all have a wonderful week!

The Lyrica is to help with the pain.  So far, 6 days in and Jordan says his pain is more noticeable and his thought processes are worse.  We will see.  I do know they are reluctant to give too many options because of his age I am guessing.  I do understand and when you don't have a DX and only suspect.  Whatever this is, it isn't kind that is for sure.

I am thinking laughter does help alot!  His mood swings are sometimes totally irrational-not like Jordan at all.  But, I am finding that re-direction to something he really likes snaps him out of these crying and yelling moods.  I am sure he is frusterated but it's not like that.  Hard to explain.  It's like you can see them coming on.  He doesn't feel well, is hurting, can't focus, is tired and it happens.  My husband feels this is brain related not behavioral.  I am so glad as I know this could be seen as a teenage thing but it just isn't.  Hope that makes sense.  When he isn't in one of these outbursts, he takes direction well just like always.  Our Dr. has now prescibed the Hitchhickers Guide...(don't know the rest LOL!).  Anyway, Jordan enjoys these prescriptions (hee hee) so it's a kinda odd but good thing.  He is always telling him jokes and showing us these (I think odd) videos but Jordan gets it so it's all good.

We may find out that the GABA was working better than we thought.  Wants us to take Kyrica for 14 days-we'll see.  Have a great day and thanks for all of the support!

I don't really know anything about accupuncture, other than I've heard for some it has worked for various things and others not so much.  I don't think it would hurt to try at all.  The more things we do to try to help ourselves the better!

I am really glad that you have a medical team that is taking such an active role in treating your son!  That's great news!  Some people search for years to find such help.

Are they giving him the Lyrica for his mood, pain, both?  Or something else?  Keep in mind that while some meds work for some people, they don't for others so it may be a balancing act of the doctors trying him on different things before they find something that works well for him.  I think that after years of searching, they may have finally found a good combination of things that work for me.

I'm really happy for you that you had such a good appt. and that you all were able to find a little "humor" in this all, too.  Sometimes that is the best medicine of all!
Keep us updated!
Hugs,
Sarah

I may try accupuncture as well KU... I hear it is wonderful and better than a massage!!!

I posted about IVIg on the other thread. I would consider it for my child, really.
