Exertion/Fatigue

Of all the ridiculous luck! We have a forest/wildland fire burning very near out house. Rumors are thick, but the common opinion is that a tourist started the fire with a cigarette. It has now burned 2500 w/i a State Park and who knows how many outside of it. I'm pretty sure a fire got me started into this mess to begin with (I think I got my first symptoms of Lyme during a forest fire in 2002) and now I'm feeling the after effects of gathering up my possessions to evacuate w/i about an hour. The 40-50 MPH  wind shifted and brought the fire to w/i about 1/2 mile of our house. We gathered up the most important stuff into vehicles and moved some antiques into truck trailers all in about an hour. But what an hour it was! I can't believe that I used to be able to work like that all day and yet this tired me out so much, that I was literally dragging! And even though I put SPF 50 on my face before making that many trips out into the sun, I still got a sunburn due to the doxycycline I am taking for my Lyme treatment and clogged pores due to the sunblock that didn't seem to work. If I have to spend that much time outside again I may have to wear one of those things that the Muslim women wear! I am not even very prone to sunburn and I think my cheeks are going to peel. They aren't kidding when they say it increases the risk of sunburn!

Our road has been evacuated but we didn't go. We used to have a contract w/ the Forest Service to fight the Wildland Fires and a lot of what my husband does now is to create 'defensible zones' for property owners in order to maintain their property owner's insurance. We have all the equipment and knowledge and it would have looked pretty bad if we "abandoned ship" at the first sign of trouble, like the captain of the Costa Concordia! And the fact that the main focus of the firefighters so far has been to save people's houses, and we live in a 'tear-down'house but have all the materials for a new house stored in truck trailers, so it would be hard to trust the message to get through: " Let the house burn; save the semi-trailers!" And I don't think I did too badly w/ my higher than normal anxiety, a common symptom of Lyme, but there was a noticeable difference since the last time I was behind the evacuation lines of a fire. I'm not sure if that had to do w/ the Lyme, the fact that it was MY livestock and  possessions that close to a fire, or the fact that I was in an information black-out as opposed to having a command channel radio so I knew what was going on! I'm guessing it was about equal parts of all 3

I went to bed at about 7:30 after doing all we could and tearing up some landscaping that we were reluctant to mess with until the risk was that close. I had planned on getting up for my turn to watch, but after the National Guard woke us up at midnight to tell us that our area had it's risk level upgraded, I was so tired, I was able to go right back to sleep. (It was more smoke than fire). The kids took pity on me and took my watch, and with a few interruptions, I ended up sleeping almost 14 hours. This is an insane illness, that even this kind of thing can't break through the fatigue!

I am dreading having to put the house back together and I have to take my daughter back to Denver on Wednesday for a check-up and I have another appt. with my Lyme doctor. I am so looking forward to regaining some stamina!

OMG we moan in this country because it has rained 3 days.

I cant imagine having to do all that Val and not being tired. I just do a little housework and am pooped.

I will hold onto my little parcel until you tell me its safe to send ok.

I am so glad you are ok sort of though.

Good luck with your daughters appointment and your lymes appointment.

Big hugs.

Cigarettes are the scourge of life. Just think of all those animals and critters who have died and humans having their homes destroyed because of one unhealthy stick.
