Frustrated w/ my intellect

I think I'm having some cognitive issues --- I have noticed some increase in spelling, losing words and recognition. It certainly is the most troublesome thing behind my vision issues. I have a cold. Do you think it's related to that or from the flare? I thought I was doing so well after the IVSM, now I'm wondering if I'm still flared.

Thoughts guys?

I would recommend Strattera. It might be a really good overall medication for Jordan. Strattera is not a controlled substance. It actually was used as an anti-depresant but they realized that it worked better to control ADHD. It doesn't tend to cause weight loss and it is a mood lifter.

My son has ADHD, he is currently on a very minimal dose of Focalin XR. Focalin is a stimulant. I wouldn't recommend that for everyone as it is a different kind of drug but it IS the best one out there in terms of side affects. It's essentially ritalin without all the bad stuff.

At one point, they had him on the two lowest doses of Straterra and Focalin XR because the two drugs worked differently and thus helped keep him on the lowest doses. It was how we kept his weight loss minimal. (My son is a little thing, he can't lose weight. He is 76 pounds at 5 and 12 years old.)

Anyhoo - I think it is worth considering heavily considering his mood lately and attention issues. 2 for 1. Good luck mamma!

I don't know if this might be helpful but I did remember something.  Our Neuros have asked a couple of times regarding Jordan's memory and thought processes and have suggested ADHD meds to help.  I believe they suggested Strattera but we just kinda ignored it at the time.  At the time we were and are wanting a diagnosis not to cover it up.  I am rethinking this as I have done some research and talked to other MSers that take them and claim it helps.  We are still up in the air but thought I would pass this info along.  I guess it's common.

I do hope you feel better soon!  The stuff is nasty!  I haven't been so sick in many years.  Had to get shots of Rocephin and Solumedrol.  Jordan has cognitive issues more when he is tired, stressed or ill.  He gets so frusterated not being able to spell simple words or talking some days.  I am truly sorry this happens.  I am sending you well wishes!  Rest and get better.

Maria,

This may be TMI but I could tell when the norovirus hit our home. There is a sulfur smell and yellowish tint to the runs.

It's one of the only stomach bugs that really put me out for about 5 days. It is NASTY! I am so sorry. I hope everyone feels better.

Hugs,
~B~

Hi there.

I have been feeling sick all day and have the runs. I had my grandson come and see me yesterday and he was poorly on Wednesday/Thursday with it. Now I just assumed once you were better you were clear, but no I just found out that you can be contagious TWO WEEKS after recovering from it.  OMG it is no wonder why so many kids keep getting it.....and adults.

I think I must have had a cuddle with norovirus lol....feel so rank today, felt great yesterday.

Bugs bah humbug.

When we lived in Kenya and Hong Kong we never got tummy bugs go figure lol. xx

I am sorry you all are feeling so badly -  the bugs are out there - somehow I have managed to avoid all but one early on in the year,

I too can see a difference in my memory and yes spelling!  I was always the best at spelling and now I find myself second guessing everything -  It is awful.  I do word puzzles and other mind things to keep it active but I have definitely seen a decrease in function.

Feel better soon!

Hugs back

I am feeling worse too Val - it's hitting my lungs and it feels more flu-like at times than cold-like. I had the influenza shot so I'm guessing that this would have been worse.

I agree Maria--- I think I've been through a lot and my body is showing it is under stress. I haven't been really sick in more than 2 1/2 or 3 years. I can't remember the last time I was sick; so I think this is my body letting me know it's weak.

I do have to say though... I feel the IVSM was the best thing for me. I am pretty sick and have minimal symptoms. My vision is still getting better. I have my muscle twitching and the dimming is still in my right eye but my double vision, blurring, facial numbness and pain are pretty well gone. I had the vision symptoms very intermittently and it only last for a bit.

I would recommend trying it to anyone that has MS symptoms and was offered it. Just once to see how you interact.

I'm going to bed and to try to fight this bug.

Hugs to you all,
~Barb

You had me ROFLMAO, too. You must have a very close relationship with your chickens! :)

My Sister-In-Law and all three daughters had Scarlet Fever a few years ago, too. I sure hope you don't get that.

Rickets, Shingles, it is crazy how many things are laying in wait.

Thank you. I am feeling a bit better after about 12 hours sleep. How is your husband doing with his liver issue?

Sorry your poorly Val, hope you get better soon. Everyone seems to be sick in the UK at the moment and I am trying to dodge the bugs lol. My SIL and daughter came to see me on Thursday and he said he had a little rash (he is on testosterone so we thought it was reaction to that), then on Friday afternoon i see on his facebook wall he has been diagnosed with SCARLET FEVER, so i am think omg what the heck, am I going to get that now......

SCARLET FEVER blooming heck i thought that was over and done with years ago lol but apparently it has reared its ugly ahead again. He works in a home for dementia and assumes he got it from one of the old people who looks after.

All these diseases coming back we even have RICKETS now in the uk worse then after the war...I mean what is all that about.

I am just waiting to get the pox off my chickens now ROFLMAO tee hee.xxx

Oh did you become dyslexic? I did lol.

One of the things i noticed at first before i knew i was sick was my typing. I would read it back sometimes and it would well just wouldnt make no sense lol.

I still do it now it is always worse when I am stressed or tired.

If I am stressed or tired my brain slows down so I am thinking sort of out of sync lol.

I would think you are just tired you have been through a lot lately and perhaps were expecting too much from the steroids. I dont know of anyone who has had a real or full recovery from them, only a partial lifting of some of the symptoms, and that is why i decided not to partake in them as it was not worth the risk of bone density problems for me at my age.

A relapse can take a bit of time to come out of, so I would think even though you have the IV it has to work to fix a lot of problems lol if you get my drift.

I am sure in a couple more weeks you will feel tons better. Once the sunshine comes out you watch it will change.....

I don't have any advice to offer, just wanted to let you know that I can totally relate!  The cognitive issues is one of the few deciding factors that made me decide not to return to school for now.

I have a hard time concentrating, short-term memory problems, and a major problem with word finding.  And I always feel like I'm in a fog.  Probably in part from the MS, but also part of the fibro.

The word finding has been the worst for me.  It is an everyday, all day occurance for me.  My kids really laugh at me about it, and at first I laughed along with them.  But now I am getting really frustrated with it!  I find that if I try too hard it gets worse.

Your sx probably are getting worse from your cold.  I know that a few weeks ago when I had bronchitis and a sinus infection a lot of my sx got worse.  They went back down to "normal" when I started to get better.  You could have some lingering sx from your flare too.  Maybe a combination of both?  How long have you been sick?  There has been some really nasty stuff going around lately!

Get better soon and try not to worry about it too much!  (I know, better said than done!  ;)
Love and hugs!

From what the Neuro Psych doctor told me , I do think it could be from your cold. I felt like I was coming down with a cold on Thursday afternoon when they called to confirm my appt. and he tried to get the okay to postpone until I was feeling better so "I would score as high as possible". We couldn't get anything but voice mail at my company so were unable to change it, but he asked me about mental fog from being sick before we began yesterday. I felt a lot better than I expected fortunately.

But today I am running a fever and my lungs are getting congested. I'm feeling the mental fog today I am grateful I didn't feel like this yesterday, I even had a bit of vertigo which is one of my Sx I had been attributing to sleep deprivation. This is the first time I've ever had it after a decent night's sleep.

I hope you are not still flared and get to feeling better soon!
