The visual field test is very narrow in scope in terms of a diagnostic tool. You could have normal results on the visual field test but abnormal results on the VEP (Visually Evoked Potentials).

I've had two normal field vision tests, but still deal with episodes of blurred or double vision. Prisms in my glasses don't help.

HI the blurring of vision is classic of MS or similar and then when you go to the optician they say everything is normal because basically it is.......

My vision is always worse when I am having a flare.....then it gets better....I never go to the optician now when I am in flare as it is a waste of time lol......

Thanks guys..very frustrating it is. Since they tell me my "vision" is perfect...WTH..

So here we go again...I am seeing my neuro soon and have a feeling he'll say migraine..

Back to the drawing board..I have had not other weird sensory symptoms latley and as soon as the weather cooled down my legs are back to normal...I am going to ask him to consider Topomax again as I have been having heaches with and without nauesea..I feel dizzy and neuseated when I get up and it can last most of the day...He'll say migraine but I never had this on my Topomax so I am asking him to consider it if he feels appropriate. He took me off it to "see what I was like" I was okay for a while but this is now a constant battle.

hi jibs,

you know i had a feeling this would be the outcome since if your results had been abnormal, someone would likely have called you rather than have you wait to get them in the mail.

it's the mixed bag of emotions once again.  sure it's great to have normal results, but at the same time it's incredibly aggravating not to have an explanation for what's going on with your eyes.  crazy-making business, for sure.

like wonko, i have flashes in my peripheral vision in my left eye and massive floaters but had normal visual fields and evoked potentials.  my neuro-ophthalmologist said he saw some inflammation in my optic nerve arteries a year ago, but after this last visit, he didn't remark on it at all and when i asked about it he said nothing had changed so he wasn't concerned.

anyway, i hope you are doing well.  take good care of you!
blessings,
binx

Hi
That's good news, at least you know your sight is okay, bad news is it doesn't explain blurry vision... you are an enigma ;o).
Hope you are okay at the moment.
hugs

I've never had an abnormal eye exam of any sort, either, including visual field.

This despite a sudden onset of floaters (which, ok, the eye doc did see, but couldn't explain), flashing lights in my peripheral vision, and mild double vision that was constant for months and currently still appears when I get tired or over-heated.  At the time of the onset of all of this, I was experiencing stabbing pain from behind both eyes.  I would also experience occasional optical migraines, which I never had before.

Interestingly, I recently had to apply for a new driver's license since I moved.  I found out at that time that the vision in my left eye has deteriorated, and that with my current prescription I can't even make out the top line on an eye chart with that eye.  Could just be age, but I wonder about it.  I've worn glasses since I was a teenager, but my Rx only changes a little bit every few years, so the sudden worsening in one eye seems strange, and may force me to see another eye doctor!

I only rarely experience eye pain or severe eye symptoms anymore, but I still see flashing lights (like cameras going off) if I move my eyes around in dim light, and my vision still goes blurry and/or slightly double if I'm tired or too hot.

It seems that there are a lot of illnesses which can affect the eyes and vision but leave no obvious signs, just another frustration.

I've consistently tested high for inflammation (through SED rate or CRP), so my "best guess" is that inflammation puts pressure on my eyes, but that's just my theory and I have no abnormal eye exam results to prove it.

Hopefully things become clear soon! (Sorry for the pun, couldn't help myself!)
