Back from my appointment

Hello Gang,

Well I am back from my appt. I think I have found a new doctor.  I will tell you why. I just got home and there was a message from him, not the secratary, him, asking me to call him back as he has some follow up questions for me...My doctor calling me...

As far as the appoinment it went well. As far as my facial pain - He is suspecting TN and started me on Trileptal, a low dose. I told him about how this started and the how my Topomax was increased and the last conversation was about Cymbalta/Lyrica and although he agreed those meds were useful he wanted to use something different..Trileptal was chosen. He also explained to me that alot of times with TN things will NOT show up on an MRI although it is good there is no tumor or stoke. He will see if this medication is more beneficial.

He liked I had all my tests, especially blood because of my fatigue which answered alot as he asked about having thyroid, electrolytes tested..He said I was very organized with my things. I offered my timeline and he took it although he said he wanted to reveiw it when he had more time...He had my MRI reports and read the last one to me and said again he will veiw my films and make his own decision. He said he does not feel the lesions are all from migraine, although they are non specific he wants to look at then himself.

He did tell me my exam was normal and that was a good thing! but again he will reveiw ALL my info and my MRI's himself. I got a lot of answers today...and even though it was not a final dx. to all my issues..I am headed in a different direction now. I feel he is a doc that will explain a lot to me and treat me with the right medications if needed. He spent an hour with me.

I think I am going to stay with him. I like the way he works. He talked to me and explained things to me....And he called me and left me a message for more information!

Thanks so much for your support with this. I am feeling better about my care!

Hi Georgoa,

Thanks so much. I really was happy today..Despite my crappy day at work ;o) I do feel better to feel validated, especially by my doc. It is so hard to have something wrong and not feel "right", especially when it is not visual to others, and have someone just brush you off. I even have a hard time with family and friends...they just don't understand the fatigue and pain..If I was in a full body cast then they may have sympathiy but they reallly don't get it..

I hope my meds help too....and my new doctor can find an answer...

Hey jibjen,

I am so happy that you have finally found a good neuro.  It means so much to have that.  I think we have all been dismissed by some doctor as an anxiety case.  To at least have the validation of ,yes, there is something going on here, is Big!   He sounds like a keeper!  I hope the new meds help and you get some relief.

Good luck!

hi again, jibs,

i am really happy that you are feeling like this new doc listens and is thinking about your situation.  those are two huge issues for people in our position.  i know it was challenging to take on the prospect of getting a 2nd opinion, and i am glad it seems like your efforts have been worthwhile so far.

i'll be interested to hear what additional questions he had for you!

take good care,

YEAH!!!!!  I am so happy you found a doctor that is doing what he should!  Isn't it vindicating?  To have them take you seriously?  It's sad that it feels like this, as it should always be this way, but when you find someone who listens to you, takes you seriously, and then makes their own decisions about you...

It's good, too, that you are being treated for the TN.  I have it and my doctor diagnosed it just through my signs and symptoms alone.  I didn't realize they could see it on an MRI if they were looking for it?

Again, soooo happy for you.  Hopefully this is just the beginning of good things to come!

That's great news, please can you send him over to see me? An hour appointment wow that is plenty of time for him to find out all about you, I like that he is going to look over your MRI reports etc and make his OWN decision .
It sounds like you may have found yourself a good neuro at last, fingers crossed.
I hope the new meds help with your suspected TN.
Hugs
