celiac disease?

have any of your doctors addressed the possibility of celiac disease/gluten sensitivity?

my neuro-ophthalmologist suggested i be tested for celiac disease when i saw him yesterday, and after doing a little more research on my own, it seems like a reasonable possibility.

just wonderin'.

best wishes,
binx

hI Guys, I do have CD.  I was dx last June following bloodwork and then an endoscopy.

There is a lot of research indicating CD can cause many more problems than GI. However, it is hard to find a neuro who will agree.  So far I haven't found one and I am still running around with the dx of demylenating disease and have been told probable MS.

Who knows.  I wish someone did.  I have been searching for a dx since Aug of 08 and still haven't an answer other than CD.

I have been gluten free (with occasional accidents, I am still learning) since June of 09,  My symptoms have not abated and some have worsened.  There are several other ppl on the ms forum with CD.  Some have a dual dx of CD and MS.  There is no reason you cannot have more than one auto immune disease.  Actually having one opens the door for another.

Celiac ******* is the best source of info I have found.

live well and take care,

terry

hi jenny,

hope this finds you doing well.

i am just bringing myself up to speed, but from what i understand, celiac disease is a result of gluten sensitivity that is mostly associated with GI problems, but can also result in neurological symptoms including those that mimic MS.  it can also cause the vascular problems my neuro-ophtho picked up in my optic nerves back in the fall which is the reason he suggested i have bloodwork done to screen for celiac.

i have bumped up against this as a possible diagnosis during the course of my research since falling ill a year ago, but it wasn't until now that one of my doctors has considered it.

take good care~
