Bladder and Bowel Problems - Feeling pants

HI
I apologise for the subject matter but I'm just in need of a - get this off my chest - and to know that I'm not alone.

Had a catheter fitted about two weeks ok at the A&E because I had retention.
Today I see blood in my bag and it's dark red/brown.
I spoke to the on call doctor and he says it's probably a UTI and I have to go to the nurse tomorrow.
Apparently they have to send a sample to the lab everytime before they'll prescribe antibotics because you can become resistent so quickly.

Now my bowels aren't happy - I've had a few accidents in the past when I just haven't been able to get to the bathroom fast enough but since I've had the catheter fitted I just can't wait - when I have to go I have to go!  Even the short trip between the bedroom to my bathroom across the hall is too long!

Anyone else out there have a catheter or similar problems.
What are people dx with - is this indicative of any particular illness/diesease?
What tests should I expect at the urologists?

Feeling really crappy today and hate the thought of having to take more antibotics.

Any advice grately received.

Hugs x

I'm so sorry that you are going through this!!  Yes, many of us have problems with bladder and/or bowels.  I have retention in my bladder and diarrhea too.  It's awful isn't it.

You poor dear having to have the catheter.  So many of the things that are happening can rob us of our dignity!!

Hiya

thanks for your lovely note.

Been back to the nurse today - another infection - oh joy, more antibotics.

The B & B foundation is really helpful, thanks

Hiya Cyd

Please never feel that you have to apologise for talking about toilet or other 'sensitive' issues here. This is part of why we're here...

So many of us suffer bladder and bowel malfunctions with neurological disorders - yet we're wary about talking of them.

My gubbins is slowly packing up - but the doctors are not interested so I reckoned I'd wait until it's all really bad until I tell them about it. So I'm afraid I don't have any practical info/experience to speak of.

But I can send you my very best wishes for a very quick recovery and minimal anti-biotics.

Oh yes, and these people look helpful - they even have a nurse helpline...maybe you'd like to give them a whirl? http://www.bladderandbowelfoundation.org/

Do let us know how the treatment goes, ok?

hugs
