Can BV prevent pregnancy?

I had two normal pregnancies, got 2 healthy children. I do my GYN check-up every year sometimes even twice a year. I also do STD testing (to be on the safe side). So far all my testing came back good except for something called BV (a build up of bacteria). My paps came back normal. I get this white thick discharge due to the BV ( my doctor said this should not hamper getting pregnant) I get heavy bleeding during my menstrual, and serious pain. I am trying to figure out why I am not getting pregnant been trying for over a year now. Are there any other test that I should take? Should I be looking for a special doctor. I am 28 years old and trying to get pregnant before age 30.

You should not have an ongoing case of BV.  It is solved by a solid run of antibiotic (the kind of run where you take every pill even though your symptoms have gone away.)  You should not keep getting discharge that comes from BV.  You might want to get a swab test when the discharge is strong and be sure of what it is (and is not).

BV can hamper getting pregnant if you get pelvic inflammatory disease from it.  I cannot imagine doctor being blase about that possibility, so it seems like he cannot have just written off your discharge by saying it's due to BV but shouldn't hamper getting pregnant.  I can't imagine a doctor saying that.

If he DID say that, and you didn't just interpret something he said as that, I would get a new doctor.  Get re-tested and be sure the BV is gone.

Good luck!
