Girlfriend is bleeding a day after sex..

This past weekend, my girlfriend and I (of 4 years) had sex for the first time. I put on the condom (I knew how to do this correctly), but we were both virgins. After sex, no one orgasmed, because we were to nervous...but she bled quite a lot after.

We did it again last night and there was a little blood.

This morning she woke up bleeding, a good amount. She said it feels like her period but she isn't sure.

What could this be from? I know she was in pain during sex, and we took it slow, and neither of us came, because we want to take it slow..and because were both scared of pregnancy. I has only been 11 hours since the last time we had sex.

What could this be from?

Also, she was complaining about "burning" shortly after we did it. What could that be from?

Thanks!

When a virgin female has sex for the first time, they hymen can get broken and this can hurt a little and cause a small amount of bleed (this does not happen to everyone).

As your girlfriend has had a lot of bleeding, this is likely to be her menstrual cycle.  If she does already keep a menstrual cycle record, then it would be a good idea for her to do this.

With regard to the "burning" sensation and especially when she urinates, this is a bladder infection called Cystitis and is quite common because a woman has a short urethra that bacteria can get to the bladder.  This is sometimes referred to as the "Honeymoon Syndrome".

I would suggest that she makes an appointment to see her doctor with a mid stream morning urine specimen.  The doctor will test the urine and will know if there is an infection and will be able to prescribe the appropriate antibiotic.  In the meantime, tell your girlfriend to drink lots of water to flush out the bacteria (2-3 litres throughout the day is recommended).  She can also put in 1 teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda to a glassful of water and drink this.  She can do this 3 times with 1 hour in between each dose.  This will neutralise the acidic urine that causes the burning sensation.

The other thing to note is that she may have an allergic reaction to the condom.  When you go for condoms get the latex free ones and use a good water based lubricant like KY jelly which can be purchased from most places as well as the pharmacy.

Best wishes.

Ok, son. When  people have sex, there is tearing (always). Since she was a virgin, she was going to bleed (most do). For a lot of women, the bleeding stops. However, if a woman goes a long time without sex, she can start to bleed again when she does it the next time. This is pretty normal, but she needs to keep an eye on this bleeding and make sure it does not continue after a couple of days. If I were you, I would not have sex for a little bit to make sure everything is ok.
