HPV ....freaking out

I'm a 40 yr old female whose had a hysterectomy .. I recently add pap come back abnormal.. My diagnosed me with HPV... How serious is??? Chronic or acute??? Contagious ??? How long could I have had without knowing??? Do I need to notify my ex lover??? Thanks

I take it they left your cervix during the hysterectomy? Yes, it can be transmitted to your partner. It will not effect a man but they can be carriers. Many women can have this all their lives with no problem. You will need to get more frequents paps done though to make sure nothing has changed.
