Masturbation can happen at any age, as a girl who started masturbating at 5  after accidentally discovering the sensation (bathing, not touching), it's definitely possible and has nothing to do with family dysfunction.  It's not a precursor to dysfunction either.  I refrained from intercourse until my 20's near marriage.  People are very quick to demonize something they do not understand or did not experience.

You might want to learn more about your body before deciding to have children, also making sure you have help in raising a child, it's tough out there. But yes, masturbation does not damage anything, neither does sex, even after having a child things go back to working, it doesn't make you any less of a virgin other than having sex will probably not hurt at all and you know how your body works, what you like and dislike, don't expect to be able to have an orgasm as easy with a partner though, it's a learning process, and many people who masturbate can only have an orgasm in a certain position and unlerning that can be a challenge.

There is nothing wrong with that. Kids as young as 4 years old are curious about their body. It is perfectly healthy and normal to start at such a young age.

I'm a 16 year old girl and I've been masturbating since I was very young, around 5 years old maybe, and it is definitely NOT because I was exposed to something "inappropriate" at that age or raised in a neglectful/abusive environment; my parents take good care of me, thank you very much! Little kids are just weird and curious; I discovered masturbation the same way many others did: being a curious young'n and poking around down there and discovering that it felt good! Your declaration of this poor young man's supposed "need" for counseling is ludicrous, offensive and a bit sickening to be honest.

Anyway, masturbating is natural, normal, and perfectly healthy as long as it doesn't get in the way of your life. I started masturbating since i was 6 too! I'm now 21 so...i've been practicaly mastrubating  regularly almost everyday for uhm...15 years now! I haven't encountered any problems yet apart from not feeling any great gratification from sex, which i don't really mind, as long as mast. works out great for me.

A 6 yr. should not know what masterbating is and to be honest, I think whatever you were exposed to is abusive and criminal. You need counseling in neglect and abuse.

I started masturbating since I could get reliably hard under my own control (not the occasional involuntary erections that you occasionally get when you're younger), and before I could climax, and that was 25 years ago and it hasn't done me any harm yet.

It is entirely normal and natural for a young teenager to masturbate.  Don't worry about it.  Don't let it take over your life either!

I can't believe how many adults don't know that a male can get an erection at any age and have an orgasm (get the feeling) at 3 or 4. I did, and I know two other guys that lived in my neighborhood did too. It was earlier than most people, but it's not uncommon.
