Is the pain like a burning sensation? If so I've experienced the same thing and it can be extremely painful. The gynecologist told me i had a yeast infection and gave me a vaginal cream. If you use any scented body wash down there, scented pads, bubble baths or if your partner climaxes in you with out a condom, especially if you haven't been having sex for a long time, all these can throw off your Ph balance in your vagina. Resulting in a yeast infection. Other symptoms of a yeast infection are a thick white discharge, itching, and a foul odor,  which not everyone gets.
