Tonsillitis after sex Viral or Bacterial?

I am 20 year old male, 4 days ago I had sex with with 30+- year old woman. The next day I noticed a small pus pouch on my left tonsil; l also had a minor pain in the neck region. I immediately went to a clinic to get tested for any STDs but the clinic was closed. I went to see the doctor yesterday and he prescribed me antibiotics, 10 day treatment ,3 times per day.
I asked him if he thought it was viral or bacterial, and though he couldn't tell he said there is a chance that this is mononucleosis.
Sex was unsafe for mere seconds before I noticed that she had inserted the penis, I immediately pulled out, but besides that a lot of oral sex (by both of us) and kissing yook place. I am very afraid that it can be viral, because there are no cures for that, but what gives me hope is that in case of virus, the symptoms probably would not manifest on the second day. As of now, on 4th day I have acute tonsillitis, pain while swallowing and some pain in ears and neck. (I also eat some unwashed fruits on that day, before the encounter, I was pretty drunk) need an advice asap. Thank you

You're Welcome :)

Try not to worry too much meanwhile ~ also be aware that the antibiotics should clear up any infection.  Once you get back, you should get swabbed to figure out what is going on.

Hi again,

The best person to answer your question would be the doctor who took your throat culture (who swabbed you) and prescribed the antibiotics. If you doubt the doctor's diagnosis, you can always be tested at a health clinic, or seek advice from another doctor for a second opinion... Yes, there are STD's (oral gonorrhea & chlamydia) that can cause sore throats and pus to appear, but there are also other fungal and bacterial infections (strep & thrush) that can cause similar symptoms. I completely understand your concern here, but before you jump to further conclusions, first see how the antibiotics work, once you've completed the full regimen.

Hi there, thanks for the input.
In any case if my symptoms subside and I am well, is there any reason to believe this is STD?

Hello,

First, you should complete the entire course of the antibiotics you were prescribed. You could still go back to the clinic to be tested for STD's, but be sure to mention that you are on antibiotics first. If you see no improvement, or your symptoms worsen once you complete your antibiotics, go back to seek advice from your doctor.

Take Care
