Hi Jim
There's an interest in EVERY herbal remedy, because we all want simple answers to complex problems. And wouldn't it be great if there were a magic pill that solved everything?
Depression is caused by an actual physiological condition. If you are clinically depressed, there are treatments and medications that may be helpful. If you're not depressed, but rather sad because you're not having sex, that's an entirely different issue.
Questions to ask yourself are: what's my explanation for why I'm not having sex? Do I really WANT to have sex, and if not, why? How do I feel about myself? Do I feel I'm an attractive loveable person?
Please don't waste your time being embarrassed. You are not alone. Many people are lonely and depressed because they haven't yet explored their options and discovered something that works for them. All it takes is a commitment to learning about one's self and the determination to make some changes. Dr. J
''I’m also wondering if you’ve looked at all the aspects of your life and determined which, if any, ARE actually affecting your desire? If you do this, you’ll probably figure out on your own what you need to do. '' Dr. J
I don't engage in sex and in fact THIS is what causes my depression and probably lack of desire but the lack of desire itself has made me lose confidence and motivation to do anything. Its a vicious cycle.
Its also a 'problem' which Im embarrased about and hurt by and of course deeply depressed about, which there is no simple solution but Id be interested to hear what you can say to this Dr Epp.
Well I have taken maca and did notice a definite effect. I just wanted to know what others have experienced.
I am a young man and healthy. However I suffer from depression but could not believe that this could cause my desire to vanish.
I would like to hear from others who've tried maca.
If it is entirely placebo or there's nothing special about maca, why is there such interest in it?
It cant be a hoax.
Maca root is a member of the radish family and is high in protein. As my grandmother used to say: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” The FDA does not recognize any herbal supplement as affecting desire.
I’m assuming you know about the placebo effect: if you believe strongly enough in something, you can influence your attitude and in some cases, make it come true.
So go ahead and “believe” in this if it makes you happy.
I’m also wondering if you’ve looked at all the aspects of your life and determined which, if any, ARE actually affecting your desire? If you do this, you’ll probably figure out on your own what you need to do. Dr. J
