Breast or Mole...beyond frustrated!

Hello to everyone....I am really hoping to get some helpful advice and information....

I have a mole.  It is about the size of a marble it is on the Left breast...upper/outer quadrant.  I have had it ALL my life...passes down to ONE lucky female each generation...lol...anyway....

July 23, I noticed a lump had formed under the mole and extending outward into the breast not the armpit.  The lump is obviously palpable....it is hard...I can not move it...nor can I squeeze it.  Again, the mole is ON the breast.  It does NOT hurt. I have not injured the mole or breast.  I have NEVER had an issue with this mole...ie, bra strap or bathing suit irritating it, the mole is covered by the bra fabric.

Five days later a red ring outlined the bottom of the mole...then the red covered the whole lump a few days later.  It does not hurt....it was not hot...it is not an abscess or bug bite.

I am soooo frustrated....I made appt. with OB/GYN (7/28)...quicker to see him than a dermatologist, and considering it is on the breast, just seemed smart to do.  He did a WELLNESS check-up!  He only touched the lump for a faction of a moment when he did the breast exam for the check up.  There was no mix up...he entered the room stating, so you're here today, because you have a lump on your breast....Anyway, after redressing, I ask him, if he thought the lump was related to the breast or was it the mole???  He says, he didn't feel a lump!  All he felt was the mole...I told him the lump was under the mole.  He set me up for a "routine" mammogram (which thank God my insurance had changed to diagnostic).  But, we would talk about it at my next visit. (I will NOT be back for that appt.)

Made appt. with GP, who happened to be on vacation the week prior.  He has been of some help, and also set me up with a dermatologist.

Mammogram was 8/5.  They immediately did a sonogram.  Got results yesterday....BIRADS 4....They say the lump was there in 2005...but was NOT mentioned in the mammogram report sent to me or my GP....2005 mammogram was BIRADS 2, due to a swollen lymph node on the right breast....And even though they say that there hasn't been any signifigant change in the "solid nodule", the sonogram findings have warranted a biopsy and removal....but all they say about the findings from the sonogram is that the lump is solid.  Report also states that the "solid nodule" and changes seem to be related to the mole.

Dermatologist 8/11...he looked at mole.  Tried to give him the mammogram and sonogram films and reports.  He told me he doesn't know how to read them, and to just put them up.  He spent all of five seconds examing mole and decided he wanted to just shave it off, no biopsy first and send me off to surgeon for the removal of lump.  I left his office with my mole intact...not quite comfortable with that.  He was dismissive, didn't try to use any other instruments to look at it.   His nurse was shocked too.  He says he doesn't understand why I was there since I have a breast lump???!!!

So, now I have a breast lump under a mole...which ob/gyn obviously thinks is skin/mole related and the dermatologist thinks is breast related...I am beyond frustrated.

GP is setting up appt. with breast surgeon (which was recommended by the imaging radiologist) ...will find out when that appt. is tomorrow....

I know this is long...but, I am so tired, frustrated, and getting angry...yes the lump is still there....not it isn't quite as red anymore.  Skin cancer and breast cancer are very predominant on my mother's side.  I'm not scared....I'm too conflicted otherwise to be....anyway...I feel so kind of alone, because, I can't really find anyone who has gone through this situation with the mole....if there is someone who can help, I promise...you will be my bestest friend....haha...just trying to keep it light...oh, and BTW...no I'm not breast feeding...no history of abscesses, boils, and not it iisn't staph or an infection....thanks again....

Wow...have to say, this happened fast...got call from my GP, and he had the my appt. with breast surgeon scheduled for  this morning!  I have already been there and home again...lol...surgeon thinks that the lump is definately mole related not breast related.  It is NOT an infection.  And he said, I was smart not letting the Derm. shave it off without biopsy first or looking at the films....you can see on the films, where there is something "connecting" (lack of a better word) to the mole...and he said, if there wasn't a lump involved shaving it off would have been fine....so,I  go have the entire thing removed and biopsied next Thursday...yeah, should know more then.

Hi,

I don't have the experience you may be looking for but want you to know that I feel for you and have been in your shoes with a terrible 1.5cm lump that appeared immediately after my partial thyroidectomy in '07 . it was 1/4" above the incision and I was bounced around from ENT to dermatologist until the dermatologist figured it out.  Turned out not to be cancer, but they didn't know for 12 days.  Long time to wait so I do feel for you.

I have history of an early melanoma 6 mos after my thyroid surgery.

By the Derma taking a shave biopsy that's ok because that is normal protocol ... they get the results from the shave portion and then decide from the path report if further work is necessary based on cell changes, etc.  So I wouldn't worry on that acct that it is still there.  I am a patient, not a Doc of course, but that was my thought on your ? there.

I have had a FNA biopsy done on my thyroid for a solid nodule which turned out to be benign.  Please stop by our thyroid community and in our health pages there's tons of info on FNA biopsies which are very similar to Breast Biopsies .... mine was done in a Breast Cancer area of a mj hospital and I got immediate results which were atypical but turned out benign.

Your OB GYN doesn't sound on top of things.  I'd go for a 2nd opinion if needed .. see what the surgeon says, too.

And most of all do get that biopsy and let us know.

Feel free to PM me. I am a Community Leader on Thyroid & Asthma communities and help out here as my time allows.

Of course, there is the Breast Cancer Community too which is absolutely great!  The CL' there are terrific and can maybe help you, too.

Regards,
C~
