Mole worry

Hi :)

I have a mole that i went to see my gp about 3 years ago and she said at the time that it was fine and not to be in anyway worried but that because it was quite big and in an awkward position that i could have it removed - they never referred me for the removal and being as it was no bother to me i wasnt worried but now it has started to ache - just a slight dull ache around it - should i be worried?

Thank :)

I work for a dermatologist and he always recommends to take a baseline photo. Which you can keep for your records no one really remembers when a mole or a " beauty mark" appears. So have a friend, partner or a professional photographer take them. Take the pictures in quadrants so it's easier to locate the moles.  Asymetry, borders, color, diameter is what your looking for sometimes it's a pimple that just won't go away( usually that's a skin cancer. You should at least have a skin cancer screening they dot take much time and are covered by insurance.

I don't think you should worry. If it's in an awkward place you might have irritated it and that's why it is hurting.

Next time you're at your GP then ask to progress with having it removed.

If it changes in any way (size, shape, colour, height) then see your doctor.

Take care.
