heartbroken with two scars on my face.

I had two moles that grew over the years on my face so I finally went in to check with the Doc. As a result, it was skin cancel and I was encouraged to get it remove with the understanding that I will have two scars, not knowing how big the scar would be I agreed. What I can't comprehend now is the two moles were pretty small size and now after the surgery I have two scars both are almost an inch long on my face, four times bigger than the mole. I was not expecting such huge scars. Did the Doctor do a good job removing my moles? Should my scars be this big? Please answer me. :(

I had a pink spot that was changing shape , always itchy and scaly, for over four years.  It was about the size of an M&M candy and located on my forehead. When it was biopsied, it turned out to basal cell carcinoma. The dermatologist at Baylor removed it but had to cut a lot out to get the normal cells.  I'm left with a one and half inch scar running from the top of my hairline down to the side of my eyebrow.  I also was shocked to see such a large scar.  I hope it heals and the scar goes away.

I totally understand your shock at suddenly having these scars on your face, your doctor should have warned you what to expect. But with skin cancer you cannot take any chances, your doctor has to take enough skin away to get clean margins (to ensure he has got all of the cancer).

These scars will of course heal a great deal and look much better with time, for now - try rubbing something like bio-oil or vitamin e into the scars (ask your dermatologist first). At a later date you could look into facial peels and/or laser surgery to help fade the scars even further (this will help a lot).

They WILL fade and there are things to help reduce the scars.

I hope this helps a little.
