effort to breath and waking in night feeling like i will faint

I am on a lot of meds for bipolar II.

recently over the past few weeks i am extremely tired, and i feel breathless and like its an effort to breath. i fall asleep for the first time in 10 years without medication. I wake up in the night, and I feel its hard to breath and i hear a hissing sound and i feel weak like I am going to pass out - but i am lying down.

and ideas or opinions about what i am experiencing would be good. I saw my GP but he thinks its a side effect of my pills.

I take 75mg lamotrigine, 75mg effexor, 800mg lithium.

Thank you for your answer. i have lost weight if anything. i fidget in the night and most often wake up on my side. i am the right weight for my height.
the feeling of fainting is normally on my side the breathing problem is on my side and on my back.

Do you normally prefer to sleep on your side, back or stomach? Are you waking up short of breath on your back only? Have you gained any weight recently? If so, you may be slowly developing a sleep-breathing problem.
