I am a 23 year old sufferer of a disc herniation of the L5/S1 Disc to the Posterior and on Right side of my body. My report states pain is developing and debilitating as the herniation is putting pressure on the psiatic nerve in my right leg. Which causes shooting pains, sharp stabbing pains, numbness, soreness, and in the case stated above quite a degree of discomfort during classes.
Doctors often prescribe me hydrocodone, diazepam, and nabumetone(which i no longer take)
I've tried... flexitol, flexerin, lexapro, muscle relaxers, steroid injections, physical therapy, i've lost track of all the names, a TENS unit (which does seem to show expensive signs of sucess), and now earlier today acupuncture.
Now as a student how is one to solve equations, focus on lectures, and get things accomplished while we take all of these 'great pharmaceutical wonders.' The acupuncture helped a bit get a TENS Unit maybe this Spinal belt is the same thing. But try the supposed BS in this Chinese Medicine OPC-3 anti-oxidant and natural herbal supplments. Simply because I have had better success with the very few people in that field, then in the greater care of over 6 different Neuro/Ortho/Spinal/Therapeutic/etc. Caregivers.
This is a very frustrating situation to be in, and I find the American Medicine lacking in adequate accepted medical solutions.
Hi,
You also need to consult a spinal surgery specialist. Till then try out the spinal belt and rest and OTC painkillers. Schedule an appointment with the spinal surgeon and discuss your symptoms and MRI report with him. Discuss what are the treatment options that you have and whether surgery is required. Goodluck.
