I need help getting to sleep..

I have had insomnia my whole life..  Now that I may be pregnant, sleep aids and alcohol are completely out of the question..  I was writing music for our Church all day and my husband would like to go to bed.. and for me to go to bed - because we have to wake up at 7:00 AM for Church in the morning..  I have to give some music to the music organizer and be well rested to be able to speak to her..  All I can think about is the music running through my head over and over and over..  I have tried everything and I would really like to go to sleep soon..

A question COMPLETELY unrelated..  Why does the word "toes" always appear on "Tag suggestions" when I am posting a question?.. lol..  there's nothing wrong with my toes..

Since I posted this, I have found out I am not pregnant, but I am still going without chemical sleeping help..  I was addicted to sleeping pills for about 12 years and for the past 6 or so months I have been off of them, but getting to sleep is extra difficult - just like it was before I was on the pills..  I'll try self hypnosis..  It's really difficult because I keep thinking of something else other than relaxation - I have adult ADHD and my mind wanders - especially at night..  I have heard about sleep studies and sleep clinics, I might try that - be analyzed, however it would take a lot of time for me to fall asleep in a place like that being that it's not home and I know I'm being watched..  I find that for me that praying to God helps me fall asleep however even that my mind starts wandering and before I know it I'm dwelling on something I'm praying about and time goes by that I don't realize and I'm awake for hours and hours before I try to fall asleep again..  Sleeping for me requires a LOT of concentration which I don't have too much of..  My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 9 months with no luck..  That's one of the things I'm thinking about at night..  I have been able to sleep a few hours each night, but not nearly enough..  I fall asleep late and don't stay asleep..  I wake up very early - this morning I slept in until 7:00 am...  But went to sleep around - I'm not even sure - it was after 3 am I know - that was the last time I looked at the clock..  That's about the average amount of sleep I get per night..  I don't know - maybe that's all I really need..  I am just getting over an upper respiratory infection so I don't want to go back to the doctor about sleeping until I am feeling better from this..  So I'll wait a few days and see how things are and then see if I can be studied or something... lol..   Thank you for your answer though! =)

About the "toes" part, you got me!!  As far as sleeping pills and drinking, you're asking for serious trouble, don't!

Have you been to a doctor about your sleep problems because it sounds like you're self anesthetizing yourself. Also, you need to find out the reasons you can't sleep...

I know, sounds so simple, but it's not, I've had insomnia since the ripe old age of 12 and I'm now 57, so I know it's not easy, but if you're pregnant, you really need to get this corrected the RIGHT WAY.

As for tonight, have you ever tried self hypnosis?  Or, can your husband talk softly to you and lull you to sleep?  Just relax, have him (or yourself in your head) relax each and every body part one by one.  Tell yourself that your toes (haha) are getting heavy and are going to sleep, then go up your body, slowly, and believe it or not, you can actually go to sleep doing this.  But you have to be in a dark place, it has to be still, no noise and you have to be serious, not going too  fast.

For right now, that's the only suggestion that I have until you get to a doctor, and oh, by the way, CONGRATULATIONS!
