Irregular Sleeping Patterns

Some days I can sleep all day and all night, only being awake for a few hours during the day, others my sleep is normal and others I will be up all day and all night with no sleep. I have really vivid dreams, normally crazy and wild when I sleep for 10-13 hours at night and as of now, when I've really noticed this happening, I'm not working. Although when I was working sometimes I would have to be up and out of the house by 9am and I wouldn't go to sleep till 3-4 in the morning. I just recently had all sorts of tests done for another issue I"m having & everything came back okay but I'm just curious if there is a name for this occurrence and trying to find this online only leads me to babies or insomnia. I plan on speaking to my doctor on my next visit but was looking to get some insight. Also, I'm a 22 year old female if that matters. Thank you in advance.

Hard for any of us to say, but a doc will be able after examining you and understanding your full medical history.  In the meantime, you will help yourself a lot -- and maybe solve your sleep problem -- by establishing a consistent and reasonable sleep-wake schedule.  Especially important is a consistent wake time 7 days a week.  Do not allow yourself to sleep in or take long naps.  That will go a long way to fixing this.

Sadly I've had multiple medical tests done such as blood work and ultrasounds, 24 hour urine tests, all resulting in no answers. Not for this specific problem though, for my consistent hot flashes. I am planning to head to either a shrink or a neurologist to see what the problem is. I set over 7 alarms everyday to wake myself up in the morning and i sleep through all of them for hours even with my phone right by my ear ringing at 15 minute intervals and all of them being on snooze. I don't want to blame the time change here because its minuscule, but with this whole not being able to wake up thing, it mainly started to get so severe when the time change occurred. I also went through something a bit traumatic which I think could potentially be playing a part in this. I was just curious if there was a medical term I could bring up to my doctor but its hard to find something so specific online. I try my best to keep a normal schedule but it is genuinely impossible for me for some reason. Thank you for your time answering!
The first thing to do is read a book on sleep disorder so you get a good background on the issue. The consistent sleep routine mentioned is very important so your body develops a rhythm.

You need to want to sleep properly and make the effort to go to bed at the exact same time each night if you have insomnia issues. And get up at the exact same time. Although there is no guarantee of success despite trying, there is guaranteed insomnia if you don't work at it.
I had bad sleep patterns for a decade but after reading and getting some basics I have slept well. Perhaps you will also be a lucky person who can benefit from working on sleeping techniques.
