Not sleeping at all

I'm 16 and for the past month or so I've been having pretty bad problems with sleeping. I usually go to bed at 10pm so I get a decent amount of sleep before I have to get up at 7am for school (I usually woke up at 6 am anyway). But for some reason I started waking up at 3-5am every morning and I couldn't go back to sleep at all after that. I have no trouble actually going to sleep, just maintaining it. I started going to bed a bit later, hoping if I'll be more tired I'll sleep for longer but it didn't seem to work. I had a week holiday from school two weeks ago and during that time I was perfectly fine, and on weekends I'm fine too. Before the holiday and any time during schooltime it's always like this.
I also always seem to be very tired, have a headache and sore eyes at school, but when I get home I'm fine.
Can anyone tell me what this is about?

Try laying down before sleep earlier than normal and also wake up earlier before school if you can. if your short on sleep one night, try to make it until the next night and you should sleep much harder. you could try maletonin it's an OTC herbal supplement. It only works if you have a deficiency though. Avoid caffeine about 12 hours before sleep. if it keeps up see a dr and maybe try some meds under your doctors discretion and see what is right for you.

My best guess, considering the periods of non-symptoms you report, is that this is stress related. I recommend discussing these symptoms with your primary care physician and see if they have some ideas that can help you. You might also want to see an ophthalmologist or optician about the headaches and eye pain.

I know how frustrating it is to wake up early and not be able to get back to sleep. I hope you find help for this soon!

Best wishes, H.
