OSA and Vtach episodes

What are the chances that OSA is causing me to have VTACH episodes?

I have obstructed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and had an ICD implanted 2 years ago due to malignant arrhythmia's (polymorphic ventricular tachycardia) and found out in the same week I had OSA (1 point from severe) waking 72 times nightly and oxygen going down to 76% but the sleep study showed no arrhythmia's during the test even though all my other tests showed 50,000 pvc's daily during that time frame.

I had my ICD interrogated last month due to a fainting spell; which showed I was having VTach episodes during the night; 9:00 - 9:30pm; 12 - 12:30 am and 4:00 - 4:30 am seem to be times that I have higher NSVT runs.  Sometimes my HR will be 200+ during sleep and I wake up with VT, dizziness, vertigo, shortness of breath and migraines.

I haven't found a mask that works for me; full, partial or anything in between they've tried - I think it's due to sinus and allergies so I'm at a loss what to do.  Right now I sleep on 2 or 3 pillows and one tucked behind and in front of me so I don't sleep on my back but still having apnea & vt episodes.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. Obstructive Sleep Apnea can cause oxygen desaturations which in turn could trigger episodes of Vtach. These people are also more prone for Hypertension. Masks can give a claustrophobic feeling to certain individuals. You could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as you get more comfortable. Alternatively, you could try BiPAP, which is a bi level pressure device, which regulates according to inspiration and expiration, and hence is more comfortable. Also supplemental oxygen therapy may further help with desaturations.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

You may need to consult your doctor for a repeat sleep study and oxygen therapy. In the meantime you could avoid taking the occasional alcohol and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. This will help improve symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

thank you for the response and answer; I'm going to go back to a new doctor to see if they can help me further and I'll ask about this when I go in.

Do you know of any reason why the machine when turned on would cause me to go into VT episodes and faint? I was fitted with a mask but it wasn't until they turned the air on (correct it sends air not oxygen through them?) that I went into VT and fainted I tried several types of masks and this happened each time.

I thought maybe I had an obstruction in my nasal passageway or airways
