Often shock when asleep

Hi there,
Usually after few minutes in bed and I am half asleep, I suddenly feel shocked and my whole body feels the shock and moves in bed. It's a terrible feeling. I just can't explain. I kind of wake up but immediately fall asleep afterwards.
I was wondering what could be the problem?
Any help is appreciated

Hi, hope you are doing well. How about your plans to visit your doctor. you need to get an evaluation rather than continue your symptoms. It is good to see so many views posted. keep updating your thoughts. Take care.

It is an interesting response from our body to us "falling asleep" - it's our brains mis-interpreting our bodies for falling - some say it is to quicken our vitals... - and the immediate response is to stop us from falling. It's called a myoclonic jerk or hypnic jerk.

I didn't know it happened as we go to stage 2 - thanks Sara, we learn as long as we live!

I think this is quite normal, quite often when falling into a stage 2 sleep you brain will send a 'trigger' to wake you up - the fact that you fall straight back to sleep makes me think this is what you are experiencing.

Hi,
Thanks for answer.
It happens often. But when it happens I dont feel any numbness, sweating etc. Its like my whole body feels a thrust and my body jumps in bed and fall down.

I do have some stress and depression but I cope with that without any medical treatment, I can keep my spirit high.

Few months ago, I used to have lot of problem with numbness. At times I used to feel very low on energy and would almost become unconscious ( I barely could move myself and would lie down. All i could feel was that I am breathing but I couldn't even move my hand neither could I speak) This happened during day time and mostly when I used to wake up in morning. I was lucky my parents were with me and they took care of me. After about 1-2 hours I used to slowly regain energy and feel better and normal.

Hi, sometimes it does happen but how serious is it, do you have any other associated symptoms like numbness, sweating, bodymovement and your reflexes.how frequently does it happens. Do you feel night terrors or nightmares. Consult a sleep specialist if it worsens. Pls keep informed. Take care.
