PLMD

I went in for a sleep study and I was diagnosed with Periodic Leg Movement Disorder. I was prescribed Klnopin.
they said
I had 62 shift movements that disturbed my sleep
I woke up 16 times
I had 30% of REM sleep (above normal)
Didn't get the restful sleep needed
I guess my question is...Does this sound like an accurate diagnosis?
My husband did tell me that since I have been on these meds I do not move around as much
thanks in advance for any replies

Hello and hope you are doing well.

In adults, non-REM sleep occupies around 80 percent of the night, and REM sleep 20 percent. So, a higher REM could indicate disruptions in sleep. Also, the symptoms of moving your legs in sleep are due to a sleep disorder called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD). The cause is not known. They disrupt sleep and cause involuntary movements during sleep. The resultant waking up is called an ‘Arousal’. This keeps alternating and the person may not actually wake up all the time, but these repeated arousals can disturb the sleep architecture and cause fatigue, headaches and daytime sleepiness. But medications do help to control this, so take your medications regularly and follow up with your doctor.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you, I have been taking the meds and my husband is even sleeping better....he said that I don't move around as much. I also have been sleeping better but still waking in the night, but when I do wake I go right back to sleep. I am feeling better through out the day
