He is not overweight and doesnt seem to stop breathing or gasp for air EXCEPT when has been drinking. He is also a smoker and I asked him to stop smoking during the evening at least, esp since he doesnt intend to quit anytime soon. He does constantly complain about being tired during the day and when I ask him if he slept well, he says he did, but he doesnt think its because of his snoring. He thinks its the 10-14 hour shifts, 50+ hour work weeks that make him tired and well I can see that, but Im starting to think otherwise. Im also a really light sleeper so that doesnt help. I tried taking Unisom hoping it would put me in a deeper sleep but I still wake up. Its soo frustrating. He doesnt want to see a doctor because he is afraid that they will make him sleep with a mask! ugh!!!
I have not tried it, personally, but I've heard that it has worked for some people. But, to address your BF's snoring...is he overweight? Does his breathing temporarily stop during his snoring, followed by gasps of air, and more snoring? Is he constantly tired and fatigued, regardless of how much sleep he gets? If yes, then sleep apnea is a definite possibility, and snoring is just a symptom of it. If it is possible, he should have it checked, because apnea can lead to a wide range of other physiological and psychological issues. If he doesn't have apnea, then a sleep mouth piece couldn't hurt to try. Hope this helps you...both.
