Shaking when waking up

My daughter is 29 months old (almost 2 1/2) and when I wake her up from sleeping (like getting out of the car seat or to move her in bed) she shakes.  Her eyes are open and she does not respond to me until the shaking ends (which can last up to a min. or so).  It doesn't seem to matter how long she's been asleep or anything like that, she still will shake.  Is this something I need to be concerned about to bring up to my doctor or to see a nero?  I asked my girlfriends about it (with kids my daughter's age) and they said none of their kids do that, so now I'm concerned.

She was a preemie of 34 weeks (was not on a resporator), has had stomach surgery (nissen wrap) and a G-Tube for over a year and a half (tube just removed this past Dec.).  She's on Prevacid, Zyrtec, Singular and a food based multi-vit.  I don't know if her meds. would cause this our not, none of the side effect from what I remember reading about said anything about shaking or tremors.

Thanks In Advance!!
Marcie

Hi, thanks for your reply. How is your daughter doing now? You are right in continuing the medicines to keep her acid reflux under control and periodic review or update of medications should be by attending Gastroenterologist. Her sleep disturbance also requires an evaluation by neurologist or a sleep specialist and a referral is not absolute. You can get an appointment at your own as the health of your daughter is more important. You can also get a second opinion of another pediatrician. Try to be more kind and give her more comfort as she may be going through a hard time. Take care.

I just notice it when I wake her up from sleeping, doesn't seem to matter if it's early in the day or late at night, I don't believe it happens when she wakes up on her own.  She's not responsive to me when this happens, it lasts for around a min. or so.  There have been no head injuries (out of the normal I'm 2 and bump into everything around).  Her eyes do not roll back, they are focused forward, she doesn't "look" at me though.  Usually she'll go back to sleep (like moving her from the car to her bed, etc...) or act very tired afterwards (if she stays awake - like it was time for her to wake up, she'll act sleepy for around 20-30 mins.)

We cannot stop any of her meds.  Her reflux is breaking though her surgery so to keep that under control she has to have her prevacid 2 times a day.  The allery meds. are to keep her eczema at bay, poor baby would tear her skin off if it wasn't for that and the many lotion baths she gets 4-5 times a day.

Her pedi is, well to put it nicely, he knows everything.  He's tried to mess with her mediciations before by taking her off of her reflux's meds. when her GI said NO WAY (it was our first visit with the pedi, he didn't read her chart or medical history that was provided to him weeks earlier that I hand delievered to the office, I knew this when he asked why she had a scar on her stomach.  This 1st visit is when he wanted to pull her off her reflux meds.  I told him right there the only doc to do that was her GI, not someone that doesn't know the history).  We have asked for multiple referals to a nero but he says since he hasn't seen it, he doesn't think that there is a problem, he's a real work of art I tell ya.  We're looking for another pedi, but unfortunally, with the insurance she is on (SSI Medicade) the doctors are limited and the other one's that do take it have told us they don't take on paitents with existing medical issues (yeah, that makes a lot of sense).

IDK if this helps any or not....just what I have observed from her when this happens.

Hi, Hope your daughter is keeping well? Have you consulted the neurologist about her health status? Do you see any increase in symptoms as day progress? If you provide other details as required it will be helpful. Do continue the medications till you discuss the probability of a side effect of drug causing her symptoms. Did she have any injuries prior to start of these movements? Keep posting on your thoughts. Take care.

Hi, well I do understand you are going through a hard time and very much concerned about your child's health. You need to give some more details of the nature of movements? Whether starts abruptly and since when ? Does eye ball roll up? Is there any loss of consciousness? Body stiffness and how she comes back to normal sense and does she behave like in a confusion state. You need to observe her more closely and carefully to note any abnormality; this will be of significant help to the neurologist who may provide her care. It is unlikely due to medications but certainly requires a complete evaluation by a neurologist. Take care in not allowing her unattended at risky places. Do keep updating about your thoughts and any doctor's advise. Take care.
